The popular Netflix comedy-drama Beef, created by Lee Sung Jin, is coming back for a second season later this month. A new trailer suggests the next season will feature a thrilling and intense central conflict.
I was so hooked when this show first came out in 2023! The first season was amazing and really centered around this intense, long-running fight between Danny Cho, played by Steven Yeun, and Ali Wong’s character, Amy Lau – it all started with a simple road incident that just blew up.
The second season will introduce a fresh story and new characters, featuring a talented cast including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Youn Yuh-jung.

Okay, so in this new trailer, it’s revealed that Josh and Lindsay – played by Isaac and Mulligan – are seriously unhappy. Lindsay actually tells Ashley (Spaeny’s character) that their whole marriage was basically just a quick fix, like they both knew from the start they’d chosen the wrong person. It’s pretty sad, honestly.
Ashley, engaged to Austin from Melton, visits Josh and Lindsay’s home with him, hoping to get to know them better. However, after accidentally seeing something private, things quickly escalate.
What to Read Next
The story starts when a young couple accidentally sees their boss in a violent argument with his wife, which leads to a dangerous series of debts and pressure within the exclusive, powerful world of a Korean billionaire.
Similar to the first season, Lee drew inspiration from personal experiences for this new story. He explained to Tudum that it stemmed from overhearing a heated argument next door, and he was particularly intrigued by how differently people reacted to it.
We shifted the show’s location to an office to better examine the relationships between bosses and employees. The conflict in Season 1 was very direct and confrontational. For Season 2, I wanted to flip that – to show a more subtle, passive-aggressive kind of conflict, which feels more realistic, particularly in a work environment.

I’m really digging this new show! Lee’s involved in pretty much every episode – they co-wrote all eight and are an executive producer too. It’s cool that Steven Yeun and Janina Gavankar are also executive producers, even though they haven’t been in the episodes this season. Apparently, the show is designed to be an anthology, so different actors and stories each time, which explains that.
Jake Schreier, the director of six episodes in the first season and also the Marvel movie Thunderbolts, will be back for season two, but with a reduced role. He’s currently only listed as directing the first and last episodes.
Beef season 2 premieres on Netflix on 16 April.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
