HBO recently concluded a promising science fiction series prematurely, but Netflix’s new adaptation of a Philip K. Dick story should be a great replacement for fans.
Most canceled TV shows are quickly forgotten. But occasionally, a show comes close to being truly great and builds a loyal following before it’s unexpectedly cut short. HBO’s Westworld was definitely one of those shows, and its cancellation still disappoints many fans.
While nothing can completely fill the void left by Westworld, the new Philip K. Dick series on Netflix should appeal to fans, especially those who enjoyed the show’s most intense and unsettling storylines.
Netflix’s Philip K. Dick Adaptation Will Be The Perfect Followup To Westworld’s Rehoboam Arc

Netflix is creating a series based on Philip K. Dick’s novel, The World Jones Made. This project feels like a natural continuation of the storyline involving Rehoboam from Westworld. Rehoboam, a highly advanced quantum computer featured in Westworld, uses complex algorithms to predict and control the future, essentially attempting to impose order on humanity.
The storyline featuring Rehoboam in Westworld is particularly unsettling because the AI gradually restricts human freedom, all in the name of guaranteeing the species’ survival.
Philip K. Dick’s The World Jones Made uses a similar idea of seeing the future, but focuses on the biological side of it. The main character, Floyd Jones, can predict events a year in advance. Like the characters in Westworld who are trapped by repeating events, Jones finds that his ability to foresee the future is more of a burden than a benefit.
While sharing some similarities with Westworld, The World Jones Made has a distinct feel, and the upcoming Netflix series will differ from the original novel. Given the shared themes with Westworld‘s storyline about Rehoboam, the new adaptation, titled The Future is Ours, could be seen as a way to satisfy fans who enjoyed the HBO show.
Westworld Never Reached Its Natural Conclusion, But The Future Is Ours Can Fill The Void

Over its four seasons, Westworld was a remarkably ambitious sci-fi series. While it wasn’t perfect and occasionally lost its way, it was a strong contribution to the genre and its cancellation was disappointing.
Despite Jonathan Nolan’s desire to conclude the story of Westworld, it’s looking increasingly improbable that the show will be revived after so long. Fans who enjoyed Westworld might want to check out The World Jones Made on Netflix, a new adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s work, and hope it’s just as captivating, if not more so.
