Netflix’s One Piece live-action series getting big change
The upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix is undergoing a significant shift, as Matt Owens has chosen to step down from the project.
On Friday (March 21), it was announced by one of the joint showrunners that he’s chosen to leave his position, marking the end of his six-year tenure on the Netflix version of the legendary anime series.
Matt, who co-led the show with Joe Tracz, shared an Instagram post announcing his departure from the project in order to prioritize his personal health and wellness.

2023 saw the debut of the initial live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix, and I can’t wait to share that I was part of the team who started filming the second series last July!
The anime series, titled “One Piece,” chronicles the journey of the Straw Hat Pirate crew as they seek the legendary ‘One Piece’ treasure. Notably, the initial season of this show gained significant popularity upon its arrival on Netflix streaming platforms.
In the upcoming season, we can expect some fresh faces joining the cast, including Joe Manganiello, Lera Abova, and actress Charithra Chandran from “Bridgerton.
Simultaneously, the initial anime series has put out more than 1,100 episodes, and a new version is now being made.
You can currently stream the first season of “One Piece” on Netflix. The second season is scheduled for release in the year 2025.
