Netflix’s new true crime drama from Dahmer boss gets first trailer

As a gamer with a keen interest in true crime narratives, I must admit that I am intrigued by Netflix’s upcoming series, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story.” Having binge-watched Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer” earlier this year, I find myself drawn to the dark allure of these real-life dramas.

Netflix unveiled a fresh preview for the forthcoming real-life crime series, titled “Monsters: The Tale of Lyle and Erik Menéndez“.

In contrast to Ryan Murphy’s 2022 series “Dahmer,” the upcoming season will shift its attention to the Menendez brothers, who were convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents, José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty.’

To begin, the latest trailer features Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), Erik (Cooper Koch), José (Javier Bardem), and Kitty (Chloë Sevigny) arranged in a group snapshot, serving as the opening scene.

Behind the scenes, Kitty expresses: “I must understand your situation with the guys… I can’t stand any more deception between us. I promise to keep secrets.”

José responds, “This is all done. Let’s stop here for now. I aim to mend our family.” Then, José and Kitty depart, followed by a scene change showing the two brothers hugging each other.

In 1996, Lyle and Erik were found guilty of premeditated murder and given a lifetime sentence with no chance for parole, as they had tragically murdered their parents at their residence in Beverly Hills on August 20, 1989 by shooting them dead.

In court, the siblings stated that they took defensive action following decades of mistreatment, primarily at the hands of their father. Yet, the prosecution contended that their true intent was not self-defence, but rather to seize the family’s wealth.

The initial installment of Murphy’s “Monster” series centered around infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, portrayed by Evan Peters. Following its strong performance in the ratings, Netflix declared plans for additional two seasons that would delve into other horrific characters who left a significant mark on society.

Details of the third season are yet to be confirmed.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will stream on Netflix from September 19.
