Netflix’s new Grey’s Anatomy-style show branded “dull” and “shoddy” by critics
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve given “Pulse” a try – the Netflix show often compared to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite lived up to my expectations. Some critics have found it lacking, describing it as “dull” and “shoddy.
In simpler terms, this 10-episode medical series weaves tales about emergency situations, facility confinements, and interoffice relationships amidst the dedicated team at a Miami trauma center, juggling their work and private lives.
Featuring Willa Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell, and Jessie T Usher, the series debuted on a streaming platform this week (April 3). Alongside their regular duties, the characters grapple with challenging weather conditions as well.

Although Pulse boasts a large ensemble and numerous storylines, it hasn’t resonated greatly with critics so far. It currently holds a mediocre score of 47% on Rotten Tomatoes based on its initial 19 reviews, with the common observation being that the show struggles to harmonize its many components effectively.
You can read a selection of reviews below:
Digital Spy
The core connections and key characters should be the focus of the production, but it seems like Pulse often strays from this… While Pulse generally performs well, albeit with some flaws, it ends up in a reasonably satisfying conclusion that doesn’t fully address or resolve those lingering issues.
The Wall Street Journal
Attempting to carry out three heart transplants during the break time of a Miami Heat match is quite ambitious, and that’s exactly how overwhelming Pulse becomes.
Vulture
It’s essentially just an unsatisfying mix-up of several superior shows that have been combined and blended so much that the unique qualities and characteristics of each have been blurred and lost.
The Hollywood Reporter
This show is similar to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, blending medical intrigue with soap opera-like elements. Viewed from this perspective, it’s not terrible – it’s engaging and fills the same need, although it hasn’t quite earned a spot among the great hospital shows yet.
TIME Magazine
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel disappointed. While there was potential for an engaging procedural from this setup, the execution of Pulse falls far short of even the most questionable premises.
The Chicago Tribune
“The show’s not just dull. It’s visually dull.”
Variety
Although the performances are good, issues such as a messy storyline, inappropriate portrayal of sexual misconduct, and some irritating character traits, overall, it’s not an enjoyable viewing experience.
The Globe and Mail
It’s quite pleasant, provided you don’t mind some over-the-top flirting even in unexpected situations like attending to injured individuals.
Pulse is streaming now on Netflix.
