Netflix’s new Edinburgh-set police drama with Line of Duty star shares first trailer
A first trailer for Netflix’s new Edinburgh-set police drama Dept Q has been released.
This series, starring Kelly Macdonald from “Line of Duty” and Matthew Goode from “Downton Abbey”, narrates the story of an officer who is transferred to a cold case squad following a harrowing incident that claimed the life of a young police officer and left his partner incapacitated.
In the introductory scene, Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, played by Goode, engages in a conversation with Dr Rachel Irving, a therapist character from Macdonald’s storyline, regarding the event that has taken place.

As I’m tasked with handling cold cases, a role I wasn’t exactly thrilled about, I find myself treading unfamiliar ground. Yet, my team, including my new colleagues, seems determined to shake things up. It seems our investigation is pointing us towards probing the police department itself.
The television series “Dept Q” is derived from the books penned by Jussi Adler-Olsen, and features Mark Bonnar, Kate Dickie, Chloe Pirrie, Jamie Sives, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Shirley Henderson, and Tom Bulpett among its cast members.
The summary hints that Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck is an exceptionally skilled police officer, yet his keen wit and sharp sarcasm have not endeared him to his fellow officers at the Edinburgh Police Department.
Following a tragic shooting that claimed the life of a young police officer and left his companion paralyzed, he ends up being relegated to the department’s basement and is now the lone investigator for a recently established cold case unit known as Dept. Q.
As a gamer, I’ve got a feeling this new community outreach program is more about distraction than genuine change. It seems like it’s been thrown together to divert attention away from our overworked and understaffed squad, which has been struggling for quite some time now. Frankly, I can’t help but think they’re relieved to see the old guard move on.
Afterward, I gather a team of underdogs, each with something to prove, as we delve into the mystery surrounding a missing civil servant, a case that’s been unsolved for a few years.
The show is the brainchild of writer and director Scott Frank, who also played a significant role in developing another popular Netflix series titled “The Queen’s Gambit”.
Dept Q will premiere on Netflix on 29 May.
