Netflix’s New Crime Series Based On Best-Selling Novels Debuts To Rare Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

As it debuts on Netflix, Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole gets a rare Rotten Tomatoes achievement.

This isn’t the first time the character Harry Hole has been adapted for the screen. In 2017, Michael Fassbender, an Oscar nominee twice over, played the detective in a psychological thriller based on Jo Nesbø’s novel, The Snowman. The film was directed by Tomas Alfredson and also starred Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer, and J. K. Simmons.

The new series, Detective Hole, based on Jo Nesbo’s work, has launched to perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a 100% score. While this is based on only six reviews and could change, it’s a significant leap forward from the previous film adaptation, which only received a 7% rating based on 197 reviews.

What Is Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole About?

The Netflix series Detective Hole, based on Jo Nesbo’s novels, will release all eight episodes on March 26th. The show blends suspenseful serial killer elements with a classic murder mystery, starring Tobias Santelmann as the flawed and compelling detective, Harry Hole. Hole is up against both a dangerous serial killer and his longtime enemy, the corrupt detective Tom Waaler, played by Joel Kinnaman, and must stop them both before it’s too late.

The film also features Pia Tjelta, Anders Baasmo, Ellen Helinder, Simon J. Berger, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and Kelly Gale. It’s based on Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole novel, The Devil’s Star, and directed by Anna Zackrisson and Øystein Karlsen. Nesbø himself created the series and wrote the script.

Working Title and Universal International Studios produced the first season of Detective Hole, with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Karlsen, Niclas Salomonsson, and Nesbø serving as executive producers. The season’s finale suggests the producers are considering continuing the series with future seasons.
