Netflix’s new comedy Ladies First branded “painfully dated” and “stupid” in brutal reviews

Netflix’s new comedy, Ladies First, is getting harsh reviews after its release today. The film presents a world where traditional gender roles are flipped, and women are in charge.

Sacha Baron Cohen stars as Damien Sachs, a chauvinistic advertising executive hoping for a promotion. However, after an accident leaves him unconscious, he finds himself in a world where the roles are reversed and women hold all the power.

Damien, adjusting to a new life, finds himself facing challenges commonly experienced by women – being judged on his appearance, not taken seriously at work, and having to spend a lot of time and effort on his looks.

To make matters even more frustrating, Damien now reports to Alex (Rosamund Pike), a former subordinate. Will he be able to cope with being on the receiving end of similar treatment?

Thea Sharrock directed the film, which features a cast including Richard E. Grant, Emily Mortimer, Charles Dance, Fiona Shaw, Weruche Opia, and Kathryn Hunter.

Even with a strong cast, the film Ladies First has been poorly received, with The Guardian calling it “painfully outdated.”

Okay, so I just read this review and wow, it’s brutal! Apparently, this movie tries to teach a really unlikeable, sexist guy a lesson, but it does it in a way that feels super old-fashioned and just…awkward. The reviewer gave it one star and said it’s not only a bad movie, but it’s a huge waste of all the amazing actors involved. They joked that hopefully, at least the actors got a big paycheck for being part of something so terrible!

The Telegraph gave the movie a two-star rating and criticized it, wondering why Rosamund Pike would appear in such a silly comedy.

In Netflix’s comedy Ladies First, Sacha Baron Cohen’s character is quickly knocked unconscious, and while the film is funny, there are moments where it might leave you wishing the same for yourself, according to one review.

The Financial Times also rated the comedy two stars, pointing out that the slow and uninspired plot – where Baron Cohen and Pike compete for a promotion – felt similar to a less successful Bridget Jones movie. They also noted the film’s unusual visual style, which appeared both high-budget and strangely cheap.

Ladies First is now streaming on Netflix.
