Netflix has a new British thriller on the way that you’ll want to add to your watch list.
As a dedicated gamer, imagine stepping into the shoes of a virtual leader, finding myself as the British Prime Minister in a pulse-pounding scenario. My spouse has been abducted during a crucial summit with the French President, leaving me to grapple with an agonizing decision that could alter the fate of both nations.
The series is orchestrated by Matt Charman, a co-writer of the Academy Award-winning film “Bridge of Spies.” He serves as an executive producer alongside Jones.
The actor expressed excitement about being on Netflix, associated with a project they feel honored about earlier. They have shared that this was an aspiration of theirs for quite some time.
Previously, we had discussed potential projects, but what mattered most to me was discovering the ideal fit. The “Hostage” project turned out to be just that – a collaboration with Matt, bolstered by an exceptional, encouraging team. I found it captivating.
Charman expressed his excitement, stating that he had been eagerly searching for the perfect narrative to collaborate on with Suranne. He further expressed confidence that her portrayal of this character would astound viewers on Netflix.
A prime minister from Britain, facing intense challenges both for her nation and her personal life, exhibits an unyielding determination, with a relentless spirit that captivates all who observe her. He further noted this about her.
When discussing the production of the series with The Guardian, Charman commended Jones for being “extremely relatable and authentic” in her on-screen performances.
He mused, ‘Perhaps if she were the prime minister, my perspective on political chaos might change. Could we win over public favor by supporting someone like Suranne? This could momentarily prompt people to listen to her with an open mind.’ He continued.
Ahead of the show’s premiere in August, both the show’s images and a trailer have already been made available for viewing.
In the creation of this series, Charman takes up the pen, while Isabelle Sieb (from “The Devil’s Hour”) and Amy Neil (known for “Hanna”) have signed on to direct each of the five episodes.
Foz Allan from “Riviera” and Steve Searle from “Supacell” will join as executive producers. Meanwhile, Annelie Simmons of “Treason” and James Levison of “Killing Eve” are listed as producers. The series is being produced by Binocular Productions.
What is Hostage about?
The drama revolves around Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, portrayed by Jones, as she grapples with a dire predicament when her spouse gets abducted. Simultaneously, the visiting French president is coerced, creating a crisis for both political figures who must make agonizing decisions of unprecedented magnitude.
Caught in a bitter competition with stakes as high as our very existence, I found myself pondering: could we, despite our differences, join forces to expose the conspiracy that endangers us both? This is the intrigue the story presents.
