The popular new spy thriller on Netflix is quickly becoming a fan favorite, and many viewers are hoping it gets renewed for a second season. The 6-episode series has become a huge hit, currently ranking as the most-watched show worldwide.
The series, which launched on February 5, 2026, quickly became popular on Netflix, eventually reaching the #1 spot worldwide and climbing as high as #3 in the U.S. While reviews were generally good, its success in streaming numbers really stands out.
Netflix’s Unfamiliar Is Too Good To End After One Season
I’m completely hooked on Netflix’s new series, Unfamiliar! It’s become a huge hit, just like they’ve had with shows like His & Hers and The Beast in Me. Everyone’s talking about it, and honestly, the ending definitely leaves the door open for a second season. I’m really hoping Netflix gives us one!
While many were looking forward to the return of The Night Manager – the series starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie – a different show, Unfamiliar, seems to be attracting more viewers. The Night Manager has done well for Prime Video since its January return after almost a decade, and has received positive reviews, but Unfamiliar is currently proving more popular with audiences.
Given the success of The Night Manager – and the fact that Prime Video has renewed it for a third season – Netflix should consider ordering a second season of Unfamiliar. Netflix has a good track record with spy thrillers, as seen with The Night Agent, which is getting a third season soon. However, they’ve also cancelled popular shows in the genre, like The Recruit, so a renewal isn’t guaranteed.
Unfamiliar Season 2 Is Likely After #1 Worldwide Success
Netflix
Netflix is likely watching how well Unfamiliar continues to perform on streaming throughout February, especially over the President’s Day weekend, before deciding what to do with the show. However, given its consistent success, it would be surprising if Netflix didn’t turn it into a larger franchise.
I recently chatted with Andreas Bareiss, one of the producers behind the show Unfamiliar, and got some exciting news: they’re already thinking about a second season! He told me they have tons of ideas brewing, but ultimately, it’s up to the viewers. He seemed pretty optimistic, though, saying he trusts the audience to make the right call about whether Unfamiliar should continue.
If how many people are watching is the most important thing, then season 2 of Unfamiliar is quickly nearing a critical point. This weekend will likely determine the fate of what has been Netflix’s biggest surprise hit of 2026 so far.
