As a total movie and TV buff, I have to say Netflix really knocked it out of the park with Stranger Things. It became a global phenomenon almost instantly, and honestly, it’s become one of their best shows ever. It’s a bit sad to see it wrap up, but even a month after the finale dropped, it’s still dominating the streaming charts. It’s been a huge part of what Netflix offers for years, and it’s amazing to see it continue to resonate with audiences.
Now that Stranger Things has finished, Netflix hasn’t stopped releasing new shows – in fact, they’ve had several hits since early 2026. Some of the best shows currently on Netflix actually premiered just last week, including a comedy that’s quickly becoming popular.
According to data from FlixPatrol, the new comedy series Free Bert is currently the 6th most popular show on Netflix globally. All six episodes became available on January 22nd. Surprisingly, Free Bert is even outperforming Stranger Things, which is currently ranked 7th. The top three shows on Netflix worldwide are His & Hers, Finding Her Edge, and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.
The show Free Bert is gaining popularity, currently trending on Netflix in 39 countries. While it isn’t the #1 show in any of those countries right now, it’s reached #2 in Australia and appears in the top ten lists of many others, often ranking at #3.
The new Netflix series is performing well internationally, landing in the top three in countries like Canada and South Africa. In the United States, it’s currently the third most-watched show on the platform. However, the most popular shows across the country differ from the global rankings. Currently, Free Bert and Skyscraper Live are at number one and two, respectively, with His & Hers rounding out the top three.
I was so excited when Free Bert came out – it actually hit #2 in the US! It dropped to #3 a little while later, on January 26th. Even though it’s doing really well on Netflix, critics haven’t really weighed in yet. As of today, there’s only one review on Rotten Tomatoes, and it is positive, but it’s hard to get a good sense of what people think overall just from that one review.
I have to say, Netflix seems to have a hit on their hands with Free Bert. It’s clearly resonating with audiences, not just here in the US, but globally. The show also boasts a solid 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a good sign. For those who don’t know, Free Bert is a semi-autobiographical comedy starring Bert Kreischer, playing a heightened version of himself as he navigates life and career. And the ending? Let’s just say it definitely leaves you wanting more – a second season seems all but guaranteed!
