The top-viewed Netflix film for the year 2025, as of now, has been disclosed, and surprisingly, it isn’t one of their self-produced movies.
At the midpoint of this whopper of a year, the gaming world is abuzz with news from Nielsen, the trusted American ratings giant. They’ve spilled the beans on their streaming charts, and boy, did it take us by surprise! Turns out an unforeseen flick has become the undisputed blockbuster on Netflix US.
As reported, “Despicable Me 4” held the top spot among titles streamed on Netflix, amassing a total of 6.274 billion minutes of viewing time. However, it was slightly overshadowed by Disney+’s “Moana 2,” which garnered more views across all streaming platforms.
As for Netflix alone, the viewership of “Back in Action” (5.264 billion minutes) and “The Electric State” (3.254 billion minutes) surpasses other originals on the platform.
The adaptations of “The Wild Robot” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” distributed across streaming platforms like Peacock and Paramount+, likewise gained significant popularity.

Last year saw the release of “Despicable Me 4,” the latest addition to the series and the first major installment in seven years. Since then, we’ve also had “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” a prequel that came out two years ago. As of now, neither is available on Netflix UK.
In the tale, Gru (portrayed by Steve Carell), finds himself obligated to move his entire family into a secure hideout when his old adversary, Maxime Le Mal (played by Will Ferrell), resurfaces and vows to retaliate against the now-reformed supervillain. Simultaneously, he must juggle responsibilities towards his family, including the newest addition, Gru Jr.

Although it enjoyed massive popularity on streaming platforms, the follow-up didn’t receive high praise from critics when it premiered, earning a relatively low Rotten Tomatoes rating of 56%. This was just slightly better than that of Minions, which ranked lowest among the main films.
In a rapid tempo and brimming with comedic pranks, “Despicable Me 4” is bursting at the seams like a burst piñata yet offers enough humor to provide viewers a delightful surge of amusement. This sums up the general agreement.
In the United Kingdom, you can either purchase or rent Despicable Me 4 from Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and several other platforms.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25,” is out now! You can grab a copy from your local newsstands or purchase it online for only £8.99. Enjoy the experience!
