I’ve been watching the anime scene closely, and it looks like Netflix might have a new hit on its hands. While One Piece is still huge, a live-action adaptation of another popular series is gaining momentum – they’ve just cast Yoo Jinho, which is a big step forward for the show!
Netflix is considering South Korean actor Kang You Seok for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling. While reports initially surfaced through an announcement, his agency has confirmed he’s been offered a role and is currently considering it. He’s reportedly being considered to play the character Yoo Jin-ho, a D-Rank Hunter and the CEO of Ahjin Soft.
Netflix’s Solo Leveling Casts Kang You Seok as Yoo Jin-ho
The upcoming live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling is adding Kang You Seok to the cast as Yoo Jin-ho. This news follows the announcement that Cha Hae-in will also star in the series. Previously known for his work on Lovely Runner and 20th Century Girl, actor Byeon Woo-seok has been cast as the main character, Jinwoo – a hunter who rises from E-Rank to S-Rank.
Netflix confirmed it’s making a live-action series based on the popular anime Solo Leveling in July. The directing team of Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, known for films like Ashfall, Like a Virgin, Castaway on the Moon, My Dictator, and Cold Eyes, will be at the helm. Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures are producing the series, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Netflix is getting involved with Solo Leveling as it prepares to release One Piece: Into the Grand Line on March 10, 2026. While previous live-action adaptations like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop weren’t successful, One Piece has received positive feedback from both viewers and critics since its debut in 2023.
Following the huge popularity of the live-action One Piece show, Netflix started working more closely with anime. They began streaming new episodes of series like “Egghead Island” at the same time as Crunchyroll, and also partnered with the studios that created Spy x Family and the first seasons of Attack on Titan. However, Solo Leveling is still largely associated with Crunchyroll.
You can currently watch Seasons 1 and 2 of Solo Leveling on Crunchyroll. While Season 3 hasn’t been officially announced yet, the anime’s producer has hinted that news about it will be coming soon.
The popular webcomic Solo Leveling introduces Sung Jinwoo, who is known as the world’s weakest hunter. Despite nearly dying in a dangerous dungeon, Jinwoo returns with a mysterious System that allows him to grow stronger. He’s now determined to uncover the truth behind his newfound abilities and the origin of the dungeon.
Currently in development for PC and Xbox, the game will feature a brand new story – one that hasn’t been told in the original source material before – and is scheduled to launch in late November.
