Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie Reboot Casts Its Nellie Oleson

A fresh take on Little House on the Prairie is arriving this summer, and even before it premieres, it’s been picked up for a second season! The show has just announced casting for Season 2, including the actor who will play a famous villain from the original series.

Willa Dunn, known for her role in Only Murders in the Building, will be playing Nellie Oleson in the second season of Little House on the Prairie. She’s been cast as a main character and will appear frequently throughout the season. While Nellie was often portrayed as a villain in the original series, the Netflix version is expected to offer a different take on the character.

Nellie Oleson Gets Reimagined by Netflix’s Reboot

Netflix introduces the new Nellie Oleson as someone who seems like a typical spoiled and bossy rich kid. She’s intelligent and self-assured, quick with a cutting remark, but secretly insecure. Her main goal is to make Laura Ingalls’ life difficult. However, despite her mean behavior, Nellie is actually a sensitive person who deeply wants to have real friends, even if she doesn’t know how to go about making them.

Nellie Oleson first appeared in the original Little House on the Prairie series, which premiered on NBC in 1974. She was a regular character for the show’s first seven seasons and her personality was developed beyond how she was originally written in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books. Nellie was known for being spoiled, stuck-up, and controlling, making her one of television’s most memorable villains, especially because of her often mean behavior towards Laura.

Willa Dunn Is the New Nellie Oleson

Willa Dunn is an actress who’s gained recognition for her work on several popular TV shows. Many viewers know her as Little Loretta in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, the younger version of Meryl Streep’s character. She also played a significant role in the Prime Video series The Runarounds, appearing in all eight episodes as the sister of Charlie Cooper. Dunn has also made appearances on shows like Peacock’s Poker Face, Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer, and NBC’s Key Witness.

The new series will star Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Pa Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Ma Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls. Rebecca Sonnenshine is the showrunner. While still based on the original books, this adaptation is expected to be more realistic and less focused on being purely family-friendly than the previous NBC show. It will explore the hardships of life on the frontier, including issues like racism and poverty.

The upcoming Little House on the Prairie series will be released all at once, with all eight episodes available globally immediately instead of being shown one episode per week.
