Netflix’s hit shark thriller is getting a sequel
As a passionate movie enthusiast who’s been through countless cinematic adventures, I can confidently say that the news of Under Paris’ sequel has sent shivers of excitement down my spine! The first installment was an exhilarating ride that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I can hardly wait to see what fresh twists and turns the sequel will bring.
Netflix’s French shark thriller Under Paris is getting a sequel.
In an engaging rephrasing, the movie under discussion is the second most-watched non-English film on the streaming platform, preceding only other titles. This captivating production tells the story of Sophia, a scientist, and her partnership with a police commander. Together, they aim to guide a shark that wandered into the Seine river back towards the ocean. However, their actions inadvertently lead to grave outcomes.
As reported by Variety, the film “Under Paris” is receiving a new installment. Bérénice Bejo will return to play Sophia, while Nassim Lyes takes on the role of police commander Adil in this sequel.
In an interview with La Tribune, Bejo shared that the follow-up movie will start being filmed in September 2025.
On June 5, the Netflix series titled “Under Paris” was launched. Initially, it boasted a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes; however, this has since dropped to 63%. Some critics have commended it as “extremely engaging” and “exciting”.
The site’s critics’ consensus reads: “Marrying environmental themes with bloody thrills, this Gallic entry into the shark attack canon ultimately lands on the right side of ridiculous fun.”
Currently, the movie ranks second among Netflix’s most-watched foreign-language films, having been watched for more than 177 million total hours and garnering a total of approximately 102.3 million views.
Standing proudly in second place, just behind the 2022 Norwegian monster movie “Troll,” I find myself surrounded by an impressive lineup of Spanish cinematic gems. “Society of the Snow” grabs the third spot, while “Nowhere” and “The Platform” claim the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Last year, it was officially announced that there will be a follow-up to the film “Troll”, following its impressive success with over 103 million views within its first 91 days. This blockbuster ranked among the top films in an astounding 93 countries worldwide. Notably, it held the number one spot in Norway, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
In the opening movie, we find a colossal beast stirring from a millennium-long imprisonment, causing destruction as it moved closer to Oslo.
Currently, “Under Paris” is available for streaming on Netflix. However, there’s no set date for the sequel’s release as of now.
