Netflix’s Heartstopper Movie Release Window Revealed By Author Alice Oseman

Alice Oseman, the creator of the Heartstopper graphic novels, has given fans a hint about when to expect the final movie on Netflix. While it won’t be released for some time, there’s a valid reason for the delay.

The third season of Heartstopper concluded with a heartwarming moment as Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) became physically intimate. This was a significant step for the couple, representing their growth and comfort with both themselves and each other after facing numerous challenges.

While the scene plays out a little differently in the Heartstopper graphic novels – where Nick’s concerns about going to university are a bigger factor – the show’s creator, Alice Oseman, has confirmed that the final season of the Netflix series, Heartstopper Forever, won’t be available to watch until after the last book is published.

Oseman explained to Deadline at the London Book Fair that it was crucial for the book to be released before other formats so readers could discover the story’s conclusion through it. She emphasized that the TV series was based on the books, not the other way around.

Heartstopper began as a webcomic published online in 2016. Hachette’s Children’s Group then published the series in print starting in 2018. The sixth and final book in the Heartstopper series will be released in paperback in the United States on July 7, 2026, and is available for pre-order now.

Even though Alice Oseman announced fans will have to wait a couple more months for the final season of Heartstopper on Netflix, it’s confirmed that Charlie and Nick’s story will conclude this year. Oseman also shared that the movie was nearly finished, just a few days from completion, with filming wrapping up in July 2025.

Alice Oseman, the writer of Heartstopper Forever, gave an update, saying they’re finishing up the visual effects and animation. They expect to send it to Netflix for dubbing and quality control by the end of next week, at which point their work on the project will be complete.

Wash Westmoreland, who directed Still Alice and Colette, is directing Heartstopper Forever. Joe Locke and Connor Jessup will be back in their roles. While Netflix and author Alice Oseman haven’t announced the full cast yet, they have confirmed that Nick, Charlie, and their friends will return.

Netflix hasn’t revealed much about the story, but they have shared an official summary of the movie.

The movie will conclude Nick and Charlie’s story. They’re deeply in love at the start, but face difficulties when Nick prepares to go to university and Charlie becomes more independent at school. This puts a strain on their relationship and brings up doubts as they try to make a long-distance connection work. At the same time, their friends are also dealing with the complexities of growing up, navigating their own relationships and learning to move forward.

Previously, Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum that the movie will be “an exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives.” For comparison, Heartstopper Volume 6’s synopsis is as follows:
