Netflix’s Gritty New Crime Thriller That Deserves A Sequel Immediately Jumps To #1 Worldwide On Streaming Charts

Netflix has earned yet another international success.

A new, intense crime thriller on the streaming service has quickly become its most-watched movie globally, and many viewers are already hoping for a follow-up. The service offers a variety of crime dramas, including hit shows like the third season of The Night Agent, and international films such as The Shadow Strays and The Takeover.

Their newest film, State of Fear, launched on February 11, 2026, and expands the story from Netflix’s popular Brazilian series Brotherhood. The movie begins with the leaders of the Brotherhood being sent to prison. This leads to a dangerous situation when Elisa, the daughter of Brotherhood leader Edson, is kidnapped by dishonest police officers.

I was checking FlixPatrol this morning and couldn’t believe it – State of Fear is officially the number one movie on Netflix worldwide! It only just came out yesterday, and already it’s at the top. The data from February 12th, 2026, shows it’s number one in a ton of places – including Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Portugal, and a few others, bringing the total to nine countries right now. It’s really taking off!

The movie is also a top-ten hit in the U.S., currently ranking at Number 9. The story centers on Elisa’s aunt, Cristina, as she desperately searches for her niece after Elisa is kidnapped. Meanwhile, a dangerous group called the Brotherhood unleashes a widespread attack on law enforcement and security forces, creating what they call a “State of Fear.”

This movie is the first spin-off created from a Netflix Brazil production. Building on the success of the show Brotherhood, it continues the action thriller’s story in a new, focused installment. Several original cast members, including Jorge, reprise their roles.

State of Fear did well in South America and helped launch Brotherhood as a major franchise. The film’s popularity stems both from its connection to existing stories and the possibility of future installments. The ending is intentionally open-ended, hinting at a potential sequel.

As a huge movie fan, I’m not surprised State of Fear is blowing up on Netflix! It’s really grabbed people’s attention, and I think it’s going to keep doing so globally for a while. Especially if you loved Brotherhood, you absolutely need to see this – it feels like a natural continuation of that story. And honestly, the way things ended, it feels like this could be the first of many big international hits for Netflix Brazil. I’m excited to see what they do next!
