I was so excited to hear that Untamed is coming back for a second season! It was already a huge hit on Netflix when it first dropped, and now Deadline is reporting that Shea Whigham – you might recognize him from shows like Boardwalk Empire, True Detective, and Fargo – is joining the cast. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Eric Bana returns as Kyle Turner, the lead investigator for the National Park Service, in a new season of the series. This time, the action moves to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, and a completely new case will be investigated.
So, I’m reading that Shea Whigham is joining the cast! He’s going to play this guy, Ray Burkart, who moved to Hawaii from California about 30 years ago. Apparently, things get tense when he butts heads with this ISB agent, Turner, while they’re looking into what happened to his son – it sounds like a really tragic story, and their investigation is where the conflict really kicks off.
What to Read Next
Within just three days of its release, Untamed quickly became the most-watched show in multiple countries. Surprisingly, it was renewed for a second season – even though it was originally planned as a one-time series – just weeks after it first aired.
The show began by introducing Ranger Jack Turner, played by Bana, as he investigated the discovery of a woman’s body in Yosemite National Park. Season one also featured Sam Neill as Paul Souter, Turner’s mentor and Yosemite’s head park ranger. Rosemarie DeWitt (known from The Boys), William Smillie (from Fargo), Lily Santiago, and Ezra Franky also starred in the series.

People really enjoyed the show, and most critics gave it positive reviews, though it wasn’t considered particularly innovative.
According to The Nightly (AU), the story follows a familiar murder mystery formula, initially appearing unique, but ultimately proving predictable after revealing its plot twists.
According to Forbes, the show isn’t revolutionary or particularly surprising, but it’s still enjoyable. The detective work is solid, and the emotional moments make you care about the characters, making it worth watching.

According to The Post NZ, Untamed is a gripping story with unexpected plot twists and memorable characters, making it a strong contender for the best drama of the year, much like Mare of Easttown was.
Now that Untamed is coming back to Netflix for a new season, it’s a great time to start watching if you haven’t yet. We’ve also suggested some other excellent crime dramas you might enjoy while you wait for the next episodes.
Untamed is available on Netflix, with season 2 on the way.
