Netflix’s biggest comedy hit of 2024 expected to run ‘4 or 5 seasons’

As a devoted fan of “Nobody Wants This,” I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we gear up for more seasons! Having binge-watched this gem multiple times, I can confidently say that four or five seasons seems like just the right amount to fully explore the love story between Joanne and Noah.

If you found yourself hooked on “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix this year, here’s some fantastic news! Though we’re still waiting for season 2 (expected to release around 2025), creators Erin Foster and Adam Brody have already been brainstorming about the series’ future. They’ve got big plans for the show and are committed to seeing it through, so it looks like this journey is far from over!

In a recent conversation with Deadline, Foster and Brody discussed several aspects of their show, such as Brody’s character casting, the development of his role, and when filming for season 2 is set to start (February 2025, for those curious!). Furthermore, the interview touched upon the progression of the series and its expansive storytelling potential.

As a gamer, I’d say when Deadline proposed the idea of “four or five seasons” for our series, it felt spot-on to me. Four or five seems just right, not like we’re in an endless summer of “It’s Always Sunny.” It feels more like a journey with definite milestones, if you catch my drift.

Erin Foster wants Nobody Wants This to “have as many seasons as possible”

However, at Netflix’s suggestion, the speed of the series was deliberately reduced. Originally, Joanne and Noah were intended to get engaged and married by the end of season 1, but following Netflix’s guidance, the team decided to stretch out the narrative to let viewers experience the characters’ love story in a more authentic, real-time manner. Evidently, this approach resonated deeply with audiences.

In response to Deadline’s inquiry regarding potential seasons for “Nobody Wants This”, Foster playfully retorted, “Hey Adam, are you around?” She expressed her desire for the series to have as many seasons as feasible, acknowledging its importance as a job and her deep affection for the characters and their narratives. Given the show’s impressive performance, it seems likely that four or five seasons will be the least we can anticipate.

Here’s what Foster told Deadline about her expectations for the series:

Really, my goal is to be able to have as many seasons as possible, because this is my livelihood, so if I can go slow, then we just keep working on it and not jump ahead. All the big, romantic moments that you want to feel in that first year of a relationship, we want the audience to be able to feel.

Although the duo stayed silent about potential hints for season 2, Foster disclosed that she’s actively collaborating with writers in the scriptwriting process for season 2. She mentioned her intention not to significantly alter the formula and instead aims to deliver more of what viewers admired in season 1, keeping us eagerly anticipating!
