A recent report suggests the upcoming live-action remake will have a more concise storyline compared to its last season.
Netflix’s live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender is based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series that originally aired from 2005 to 2007. While the original show is highly acclaimed and considered a standout in animated fantasy television, the remake received a mixed reception. Despite this, it performed well on Netflix and earned positive reviews, leading the streaming service to plan remakes of the remaining storylines.
According to Knight Edge Media, Netflix has confirmed the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender will consist of seven episodes – one fewer than the first season. Here are the titles of those episodes:
- Episode 1: “Somewhere Safe” (Written by: Christine Boylan)
- Episode 2: “A Fight, Once Begun” (Written by: Phinneas Kiyomura)
- Episode 3: “City of Walls and Secrets” (Written by: Helen Shang)
- Episode 4: “The Water Falls, the Stones Emerge” (Written by: Teresa Huang)
- Episode 5: “Ten Thousand Things” (Written by: Gabriel Llanas)
- Episode 6: “The Parable of the Two Dragons” (Written by: Keely MacDonald)
- Episode 7: “Something Broken” (Written by: Christine Boylan & Gabriel Llanas)
Fans of the original series might notice some changes to the order of events in the new show. The episode titled “City of Wall and Secrets,” where the group arrives in Ba Sing Se, appears earlier than it did before. In the original series, this happened near the end of the second episode, but in the remake, it’s in the third, which could mean the story won’t unfold exactly as viewers remember.
The title of episode 5, “Ten Thousand Things,” seems to be a reference to the group’s earlier adventure in “The Library,” which happened before they reached Ba Sing Se. The new series has already made some changes to the original timeline, like introducing characters sooner than they appeared in the animated version.
The upcoming season will feature the return of familiar faces like Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Elizabeth Yu, and Maria Zhang. It will also introduce Miya Cech as Toph, who will teach Aang earthbending. The first season closely followed the original story, with Aang, Katara, and Sokka journeying to the Northern Water Tribe so Aang could learn waterbending. Now, Aang is ready to master the next element.
Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 will release on Netflix in 2026.
