Netflix’s second season of Avatar will feature several confirmed new characters with bending abilities. The live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, brought the popular Nickelodeon cartoon to life in 2024, reintroducing viewers to a world where people can control the elements – earth, air, water, and fire. The story centers around four different warrior groups, each mastering a unique element.
The first season of the show introduced live-action versions of popular characters like Prince Zuko, Katara, and Aang, the Avatar – a master of all four elements. Now, season two is coming soon with a fresh group of benders for fans to enjoy, all of whom have roots in the original animated series.
The second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender will arrive on Netflix in 2026. It will follow Aang (played by Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley) as they try to gain the support of the Earth Nation and teach Aang a new element to help him defeat the Fire Nation. This Avatar series is one of many new projects based on the popular franchise, including a graphic novel, several movies, and another animated show.
Every New Bender Set To Debut in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2
Toph

A major new character in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 is Toph, a spirited earthbender. In the live-action show, Miya Cech plays Toph, who becomes Aang’s earthbending instructor and joins Team Avatar.
Toph is an incredibly skilled earthbender, despite being blind. As one of the most powerful in the Earth Nation, she’s the ideal teacher for the show’s main character. She’s so talented that she even pioneered metalbending, treating metal as if it were simply earth and stone.
Toph quickly becomes an important part of the main group in the original series, joining Aang, Sokka, and Katara on their quest to master all four bending arts. The live-action adaptation will feature a similar Toph, with a few minor tweaks to her personality.
Long Feng

I’m really excited about the live-action adaptation! One character I’m particularly interested in is Long Feng. He’s an Earth Kingdom official – the head of this super secretive police force called the Dai Li. Chin Han is playing him, and from what I’ve read, he’s a key figure Team Avatar encounters as they try to master earthbending.
Similar to Toph, this earthbender can manipulate earth, but he’s much less friendly when Team Avatar shows up. He’s a key advisor to Earth King Kuei and has secretly kept the truth about the hundred-year war hidden from the kingdom’s citizens.
The Earth Kingdom’s comfortable sense of security is shattered when Aang and his friends arrive with news of the war raging outside its borders.
The Boulder

A major plotline in Season 2 involves Team Avatar joining forces with competitors in the Earth Rumble, an Earthbending fighting tournament. The most notable of these powerful fighters is a competitor known as the Boulder.
Kelemete Misipeka will be playing the character Boulder in the live-action adaptation. While Boulder might seem a bit goofy while fighting, he’s actually very intelligent. Aang, Katara, and Sokka soon realize he’s one of the most articulate and thoughtful fighters in the Earth Rumble competition.
Toph and her metalbending police force, the Boulder, eventually sided with the Earth Kingdom and helped fight against the Fire Nation during their invasion.
Sung

Sung is an Earth Kingdom general and a close advisor to the Earth King whom Team Avatar meets during their travels. He’s one of the skilled Earthbenders they encounter while navigating the Earth Kingdom.
Aang and his friends first meet Sung while traveling near the edge of the Earth Kingdom. He’s in charge of guarding the border wall, but isn’t very good at his job. However, he’s always managed to talk his way out of trouble when things get difficult.
I’m really excited about the casting news for season two of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender! They’ve found someone to play the earthbending general, and it’s Lourdes Faberes. I think she’s a fantastic choice and I’m eager to see her bring that powerful character to life.
Jeong Jeong

Jeong Jeong is a renowned firebender who now lives in the Earth Kingdom. He’s famous throughout the four nations, but he wasn’t always a wanderer. He used to be a highly respected soldier in the Fire Nation Navy before deserting his position during the Hundred Year War.
I’ve always been fascinated by this character – he’s basically the first person to ever successfully desert the Fire Nation army! Because of that, everyone calls him ‘The Deserter,’ and he’s become a real legend. He ended up finding safety in the Earth Kingdom, and even joined this secret group called the Order of the White Lotus, where he dedicated himself to protecting the Avatar and helping Team Avatar on their journey.
Jeong Jeong will be portrayed by Canadian actor Terry Chen for the Netflix show.
Avatar Yangchen

Aang isn’t the only Avatar – he’s part of a long history of incredibly powerful warriors destined to restore balance to the world. In the third season of the show, Aang connects with the spirit of Avatar Yangchen, an Airbender who lived long before him and held the same role.
Avatar Yangchen led a generation free of war between nations. Because of this, people in the Earth Kingdom came to see her as a savior. Even today, many generations later, people continue to pray to her with great devotion.
Dichen Lachman, known for her role in Severance, will play Yangchen in the upcoming live-action series. Her character will guide Gordon Cormier’s Aang as he trains to become the Avatar.
