While the ending of the popular show Stranger Things left some fans wanting more, there’s another sci-fi series on Netflix that’s truly excellent and hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. The Eternaut, which premieres in 2025, is based on a celebrated comic book and has already been picked up for a second season. If you like discovering hidden gems, be sure to check it out – you’ll be able to say you were a fan before everyone else!
No, it’s not a bizarre space-set sci-fi adventure about an immortal NASA employee; The Eternaut is a six-episode series based on the Argentine comic book series by Héctor Germán Oesterheld. Debuting in April 2025, the show is set on an alternate version of Earth where a snowstorm has killed hundreds of millions. Not only do the survivors have to battle the harsh landscape, but also an invisible alien force. That’s right, it’s not just post-apocalyptic sci-fi, it’s also blended with Alien and The Invisible Man. What’s not to love? The official synopsis reads:
A strange and deadly snowstorm hits Buenos Aires one summer night, killing most of the city’s people and leaving thousands helpless. Juan Salvo and his friends find themselves fighting for their lives. But the storm is just the beginning – it’s actually the first attack in an invasion of Earth by a foreign army. To have any chance of survival, they must unite and fight back, as no one can make it alone.
Richard Darin stars as Juan Salvo in this series, with Carla Peterson, Cesar Troncoso, and Andrea Pietra also featuring. The show, The Eternaut, has been a huge critical success – and that’s putting it mildly! It boasts a remarkable 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers on Netflix overwhelmingly loved it too, giving it an 88% audience score. One Rotten Tomatoes user called it “a really excellent show with a great premise that delivers on its promises, and keeps you hooked with new twists.” The Netflix adaptation is receiving almost as much praise as the original comic book, El Eternauta, which was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2016 after its English translation was released.

While fans are excited, there’s also some disappointing news. Netflix hasn’t announced when the new season will come out, but it’s likely to be at least two years away. Furthermore, this season will probably be the last. According to Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s head of Latin American programming, they plan to wrap up the story with around eight more episodes, bringing the series to a satisfying conclusion.
