Netflix’s 96% RT Fantasy Series Returns Next Month, And The Time To Binge Season 1 Is Now

Fantasy shows are consistently popular with viewers, but they’re also difficult to pull off successfully on television. Netflix has had both big hits and some failures in the fantasy genre, which isn’t surprising. Building these expansive worlds and stories takes a lot of work, particularly when they’re based on pre-existing books or other material.

Netflix has a lot of great fantasy shows to get hooked on, like Arcane, Shadow & Bone, and Castlevania. It’s worth noting that Arcane and Castlevania are both based on popular video games and do a fantastic job of recreating those worlds. Devil May Cry clearly took inspiration from similar themes and styles.

As a huge fan, I was so excited when the Devil May Cry anime finally dropped in 2025, and it absolutely delivered! Critics loved it – it scored a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is amazing – and it even got nominated for Best Adaptation at the Video Game Awards. What really impressed me was how well it captured the intense, over-the-top action from the game, but also how beautifully animated it was. The whole show just had this really cool, serious vibe that perfectly fit the story.

Similar to other shows, Devil May Cry didn’t please everyone who was already a fan, but overall, viewers liked the first season, making it a success. The challenge now is keeping that momentum going, as Netflix has stumbled with The Witcher despite a strong start, showing it can be difficult to sustain popularity.

Given the platform’s history, it’s still uncertain if the second season of Devil May Cry will continue to be a success. But with the premiere just a month away, now is a great time to rewatch or catch up on season 1.

How Devil May Cry Nails The Video Game Adaptation Format

Netflix has proven it can create excellent video game adaptations, with shows like Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the Castlevania series. Devil May Cry benefited from these successful examples, as well as other popular shows. Luckily, the series found the right balance between staying true to the game and introducing fresh ideas, which is why it’s become so well-regarded.

The show perfectly embodies Dante’s lively and often crude personality, making him both hilarious and a bit childish. He’s a standout character in Devil May Cry, and thankfully, his impressive fighting abilities live up to his bold talk. The action scenes are definitely a highlight!

Although Netflix’s show could have taken more creative risks, similar to the games, its focus on a fast-paced story works well. It also stands out by including details not found in the original source material.

Even though the Devil May Cry series isn’t always a guaranteed success, this new adaptation is a great starting point for anyone new to the games. It’s a good way to learn about the world and characters, and with Netflix’s reach, it helps the franchise reach a wider audience. That’s why it was so important for this project to be at least decent.

Despite being overlooked by many, the Devil May Cry series has quickly become a standout adaptation thanks to its compelling characters, richer storyline, and innovative concepts. With a promising first season under its belt, the upcoming season 2 has the potential to establish it as a truly timeless gaming experience.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Is Set To Be Even Better Than Season 1

Okay, so after enjoying the first season, I’m really excited about what’s coming in Devil May Cry season 2. From what I’ve heard, they’re building on a strong foundation and the storylines are already shaping up to be fantastic. The big focus, and honestly, what everyone’s been waiting for, is the conflict between Dante and Vergil. It sounds like they’re giving a fresh, compelling spin to their classic brotherly feud, and knowing these two, it’s bound to deliver.

Though they’re likely to become allies eventually, the conflict between these characters is a major draw for season 2. The anticipation leading up to their showdown is just as exciting as the fight itself. Plus, Dante also faces threats from Mundus and the U.S. Army, hinting at a chaotic journey ahead.

The first season was excellent, and the new season promises an even more thrilling story. If it delivers on that promise, Devil May Cry could become Netflix’s next big fantasy hit, potentially surpassing The Witcher. That’s why the show’s return in May is such a big deal.

We hope season 2 improves on a few minor problems from the first season and really appeals to gamers, while still keeping everything that made it so well-received. If it does, it could turn Devil May Cry into a truly unforgettable game.
