Netflix’s latest report shows just how successful a show was last year. The six-episode series, which premiered in July, quickly became a streaming favorite.
I was so excited to see Netflix’s latest numbers for what everyone was watching! While Wednesday and the final season of Stranger Things were at the top, I was really thrilled to see Untamed right up there with them. It was incredibly popular – only a million views behind Stranger Things! That’s amazing for a crime drama starring Eric Bana, and it really proves how good the show is.
According to Netflix’s viewing data, Season 1 of Untamed was watched by 92.8 million people, closely followed by Season 5 of Stranger Things with 93.5 million views. Stranger Things likely gained even more views after the reporting period ended on December 31st, as it continued to be popular. Season 2 of Wednesday performed exceptionally well, racking up 123.9 million views and a total of 964.1 million hours watched.
Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, the creators, writers, and showrunners of the series, introduce a story centered around a detective still grieving the loss of his son. His life takes a turn when a mysterious death occurs in Yosemite National Park, pulling him into a challenging and unsettling investigation within the wilderness.
Joining Bana in the cast of Untamed are Sam Neill as Chief Park Ranger Paul Souter, Rosemarie DeWitt as Jil Bodwin, Turner’s former wife, Wilson Bethel as wildlife officer Shane Maguire, and Lily Santiago as new National Park Service Ranger Naya Vasquez. The series also includes guest appearances by Raoul Max Trujillo, Josh Randall, Ezra Franky, Joe Holt, Nicola Correia-Damude, Trevor Carroll, and William Smillie.
The series received widespread praise from both critics and viewers. Currently, it has an 83% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 64 reviews.
Initially intended as a short-run show, Untamed became a huge hit, leading to a quick renewal for a second season just months after it first aired. Unexpectedly, the new season will move its setting from the mountains of Yosemite National Park to the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
What Untamed Star Eric Bana Thinks of the Series
Before the show came out, the actor shared their enthusiasm, saying, “I especially loved filming in such a beautiful place. I’m a big fan of this type of story, and the character Mark [L. Smith] created was really intriguing. The location and the character felt like a perfect match.”
Eric Bana described the serious and emotional side stories in Untamed as substantial, saying, “It’s definitely heavy, and that’s just part of the story.” He also admitted it could be a bit much at times, but emphasized they had a lot of fun filming, thanks to Sam Neill’s humor and storytelling ability, which kept the atmosphere light.
Untamed is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Season 2 doesn’t have a release date.
