Netflix‘s returning thriller series shows the wait was worth it.
Netflix is off to a strong start in 2026 with a wave of new and popular thriller series. Shows like Detective Hole and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen are already attracting attention, and returning favorites like The Night Agent have been well-received with their new seasons. Now, another exciting thriller series is joining the lineup.
The second season of Beef launched on Netflix today, April 16th, and has already received a critics’ score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 23 reviews. This score is likely to change as more people watch and review the series over the weekend. As of now, audience ratings haven’t been released.
The second season of Beef received a good score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s noticeably lower than the score for its first season. Season 1 was a critical hit, earning a remarkable 98% score from reviewers. Viewers also loved the first season, giving it an impressive 87% audience score on the platform.
ScreenRant’s review of Beef season 2 gave the show a 7/10, with critic Graeme Guttman noting that the show now focuses heavily on anxiety. He appreciated that the Netflix series maintained its sharp wit, but felt the new season wasn’t as tightly plotted as the first.
A review in Mashable praised the romantic relationships in Beef season 2, calling them “divine.” The new season of the Netflix thriller broadens its focus beyond the single feud of season 1. Now, two couples are at odds, with Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan playing one pair, and Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny as the other.
A young couple works for Isaac’s Josh, the general manager at Monte Vista Point Country Club. After witnessing a violent fight between an older couple, they get caught up in a blackmail scheme, which creates ongoing drama throughout the season. The first season of Beef starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, but they won’t be appearing in the new season.
Alison Herman of Variety criticized the show Beef on Rotten Tomatoes, noting it felt disjointed and overly complicated, stating it had “so many centers of gravity that the whole enterprise starts feeling adrift.” As of now, Netflix has not yet announced whether Beef will be renewed for a third season.
