Sources say Warner Bros. Discovery is now in serious discussions with Netflix about selling its movie and TV production facilities, as well as the HBO Max streaming platform.

Sources at Bloomberg report that Netflix is willing to pay a $5 billion fee if regulators prevent its current deal from going through. If talks continue to progress well, an agreement could be reached very soon. This suggests Netflix is now the frontrunner to finalize the deal, surpassing competitors like Paramount and Comcast who were also vying for it.

If completed, this deal could significantly change the entertainment industry by bringing together the leading streaming service and a major Hollywood studio. It would likely alter how movies and shows are made and shared with audiences, and could open doors for new ways to reach viewers around the world.

Netflix is considering a major acquisition – the largest in its history. Despite its success as a leading streaming service, Netflix doesn’t currently own a movie or television studio. As of today, neither Warner Bros. nor Netflix has officially confirmed any deal is in the works.

If the reports are true and the deal is finalized, Netflix would acquire HBO and all of its popular shows and movies, including titles like The Sopranos, Harry Potter, Friends, and The White Lotus. This would also give Netflix ownership of HBO’s California-based production studios.

Paramount would likely be frustrated by this result, as they were the first to make offers to buy Warner Bros., starting a competitive bidding process. Warner Bros. announced in October that it was for sale, which drew interest from numerous companies.

The auction for the company turned quite competitive, and Paramount accused Warner Bros. of running it in a way that gave Netflix an unfair advantage. Paramount’s lawyers even called the process “corrupted” in a formal letter.
