Netflix viewers rush to binge One Tree Hill star’s nostalgic, soapy Sullivan’s Crossing as it trends

Adding the Canadian drama Sullivan’s Crossing to its UK and Ireland selection appears to have been a good move for Netflix. The show has been well-received by viewers since becoming available on Wednesday, October 1st.

Currently, this show ranks as the 4th most popular TV program in the area. It’s behind three other shows: the Netflix originals House of Guinness and Wayward, and also Dark Winds.

First shown in 2023, Sullivan’s Crossing features One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray. The story centers around Maggie, a brain surgeon who returns to her childhood home in Nova Scotia.

There, she rebuilds her relationship with her father, who she had been distant from, and feels conflicted as she’s drawn to both her boyfriend, Andrew, and the charming Cal (Murray).

So far, three seasons have been released and are now available on Netflix in the UK and Ireland. A fourth season is scheduled to arrive in 2026.

Sullivan’s Crossing is inspired by the novels of Robyn Carr, the author behind the popular Virgin River book series. Since Roma Roth served as executive producer for both shows, many viewers are drawing comparisons between them.

The show doesn’t deviate significantly from what has worked well for Virgin, according to Decider. While there are some disagreements, the story mainly focuses on Maggie getting used to living in her hometown again.

Similar to Virgin River, this show boasts stunning scenery – Nova Scotia, in this case – a soundtrack filled with sweet, romantic indie folk music, and a very relaxed, unhurried pace of storytelling.

Even though the seventh season of Virgin River hasn’t been released yet, Netflix has confirmed an eighth season. This makes Virgin River the streaming service’s longest-running live-action scripted series – a new record!

Speaking for myself and everyone involved with Virgin River, we are incredibly thankful to Netflix and the fans for letting us continue telling the story of these characters we all love,” said Patrick Sean Smith, the showrunner, in a statement.

Sullivan’s Crossing can be streamed on Netflix now.
