The highly praised Nigerian thriller series, “To Kill a Monkey,” has climbed to the sixth most-watched position on Netflix since its debut on July 18th.
The eight-part series, penned, produced, and helmed by Kemi Adetiba, chronicles the life of Efemini (William Benson), a man grappling with hardships as he tries to sustain his family in Lagos. After reconnecting with an old acquaintance, he finds himself entangled in the perilous realm of cybercrime, where his ethics and bonds are severely tested.
Rounding out the cast, Benson stars alongside Stella Damasus, Bucci Franklin and Teniola Adelese.
In just a few days following its release on Netflix, the new series To Kill a Monkey has garnered numerous online reviews. One IMDb user rated it a perfect 10/10, commending the show for providing an “invigorating dose of authenticity” and pointing out that “the performances are convincing, the plotline is coherent, and the cast brings sincerity to their roles”.
Simultaneously, another person stated that while it was an engaging crime thriller, it wasn’t exceptional as a character-driven drama. They suggested that the story could have been more concise, spread across fewer episodes. They praised the acting, editing, and initial cinematography, but felt that the quality of cinematography started to decline after the first two episodes.

Taking to Instagram, Adetiba has since thanked fans for supporting To Kill a Monkey.
TKAM is unlike any project I’ve embarked on before. It was daring to undertake, but it was a tale I felt compelled to share – nothing flashy, no dramatic flair, no larger-than-life characters for concealment. Instead, an unvarnished, genuine story about authentic individuals grappling with real challenges, attempting to find their way through difficult decisions,” she elaborated.

Acknowledging her appreciation for the successful production titled “To Kill a Monkey,” which she deemed a remarkable success, Adetiba expressed: “We, the TKAM crew, extend our heartfelt thanks to you all. Thank you for watching, engaging, empathizing, and making your presence felt in an impactful manner.
“We’re humbled…We’re overwhelmed by the love…We’re grateful beyond words.”
To Kill a Monkey is currently available to stream on Netflix.
