Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated movie based on Roald Dahl‘s classic book, The Twits. The film promises a funny yet thoughtful story, blending sophisticated ideas with silly humor, just like the original book. Directed by Phil Johnston, who previously worked on Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet and Wreck-It Ralph, this new adventure features the voices of Johnny Vegas and Margo Martindale as the famously unpleasant Mr. and Mrs. Twit – described as ‘the meanest, smelliest, nastiest people in the world’.
The trailer opens with a classic fairytale introduction, but the story that unfolds is anything but traditional. Netflix calls it a modern tale of good versus evil, focusing on a particularly nasty pair who terrorize orphans and turn on each other. But hope arrives in the form of a brave group, including a magical animal family, who stand up to the villains’ schemes. They’re determined to save their city from disaster and maybe, just maybe, achieve a happy ending.
Natalie Portman (known for *Black Swan*) will voice Mary Muggle-Wump in *The Twits*, alongside Emilia Clarke (*Game of Thrones*) as Pippa, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (*Never Have I Ever*) as Beesha Balti, Ryan Lopez (*Primos*) as Bubsy Mulch, Jason Mantzoukas (*The League*) as Mayor Wayne John John-John, Timothy Simons (*Nobody Wants This*) as Marty Muggle-Wump, Alan Tudyk (*Resident Alien*) as The Sweet-Toed Toad, Nicole Byer (*Nailed It!*) as Beverly Onion, Mark Proksch (*What We Do in the Shadows*) as Horvis Dungle, Rebecca Wisocky (*Ghosts*) as Dee Dumdie-Dungle, and Charlie Berens (*Green and Gold*) as Gorb Klurb.
‘The Twits’ Is the Latest Roald Dahl Adaptation
Roald Dahl’s classic book, *The Twits*, is becoming a movie, continuing a trend of successful adaptations of his stories. Netflix now owns the rights to Dahl’s characters and tales after acquiring the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021. So far, Netflix has released a film version of *Matilda the Musical* and a series of short films directed by Wes Anderson and starring Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch – including *The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar*, *The Swan*, *The Rat Catcher*, and *Poison*. However, these are just the first of many new Roald Dahl projects planned for the streaming service.
