Netflix true crime: Details for The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Jailbreak: Love on the Run

As a dedicated true crime enthusiast who has spent countless hours poring over every detail of infamous cases, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming releases on Netflix. The upcoming series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, is right up my alley, especially given my fascination with the complex dynamics that drive people to commit heinous acts. The casting looks spot-on, particularly Javier Bardem as Jose Menendez – I can almost hear his menacing voice now!

Netflix, a leading name in streaming entertainment, is highly regarded by true crime enthusiasts due to their exceptional documentaries and series. Their exclusive productions like “American Murder: Laci Peterson, Unsolved Mysteries, Worst Roommate Ever, Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” solidify their commitment to true crime programming.

This month, fans of true crime series on Netflix have something exciting to look forward to – two additional series are set to premiere!

Initially, we’ll delve into the next installment of the “Monsters” series, specifically focusing on “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”. This tale centers around the 1996 case involving the Menendez Brothers, who stood accused of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Back in 1989, when I was 21 years old, a chilling series of events unfolded. My friend Erik, who was just 18 at the time, and I were entangled in a grim situation. Tragically, Jose was shot six times, while poor Kitty endured ten gunshots. A shocking revelation came to light later – before taking his mother’s life for the last time, Lyle had to step outside to reload his shotgun.

At first, the brothers asserted that they weren’t present during the killings; however, it was later revealed that this wasn’t true. Their explanation for their actions has consistently been the ongoing mental, sexual, and physical torment they endured from their parents, with a focus on their father, Jose.

Although the defense argued otherwise, it’s said that the actual reason behind the crime was financial gain, as the Menendez family was affluent. Regardless of the real motivation, the public was mesmerized by the crime and the ensuing court proceedings.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan

The limited series will premiere on September 19th, featuring Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) and Chloe Sevigny (“American Horror Story”) as Jose and Kitty. Additionally, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch join the cast as Lyle and Erik. Notable appearances include Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, and Leslie Grossman.

On April 29, 2022, while serving as the assistant director at Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama, Vicky took Casey out for what she stated was a planned psychiatric examination. She accompanied him with handcuffs to a patrol car, then departed.

Although other officers might have found it unusual since inmates should always be accompanied by two officers when exiting the facility, nobody questioned Vicky, presumably due to her high rank. However, when Vicky and the other officer failed to return, there was initial concern that Casey might have coerced Vicky into aiding his escape; but further investigation revealed this wasn’t what happened.

It turned out that an investigation revealed that Vicky had recently disposed of her property and bought some questionable items, which led to the discovery that she had been giving preferential treatment to Casey and the two were in a relationship. As a result, a countrywide search was initiated for them, and their story ended sadly.

Jailbreak: Love on the Run will premier on Netflix September 25.
