As a gamer who has lived through countless reboots and remakes of cherished franchises, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the news that One Tree Hill is coming back. I remember spending countless hours in my teenage years engrossed in the drama, romance, and heartache that unfolded on that small screen town. The characters felt like friends, and the show was a significant part of my formative years.
Netflix is set to reboot the classic show One Tree Hill, with original cast members returning.
According to the latest reports, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton will be returning to their characters, Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively, and they are also set to take on the role of executive producers.
Jensen and Danneel Ackles are planning to take on the roles of executive producers, and it looks like Danneel might reprise her character, Rachel Scott. Additionally, Becky Hartman Edwards has signed up to write and serve as an executive producer.
It seems they’ve endorsed the news by posting on Instagram: “Could it be possible to return home?”
If given the chance to collaborate with exceptional artists and establish a platform for everyone to display their skills, reaffirm our heritage, regain control of our territory, and acknowledge our supporters, we’re absolutely in!
In a nutshell, the post went on to say: “There’s only one Tree Hill, and you – the #OTHfans – have demonstrated that it isn’t merely an ideal; it truly embodies the sentiment that ‘everything is better and everything is secure’ there.”
According to Deadline, the reboot of the show is still in its initial stages of creation and hasn’t been commissioned for a full season as of yet. If it receives the necessary approval, they intend to reach out to some original cast members, such as James Lafferty (Nathan Scott) and Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott), to potentially join the new series.
In the new version, the storyline revolves around Brooke and Peyton playing parent roles to their teenage children, mirroring the struggles and drama that the original characters experienced years ago.
Bush, Burton, and Lenz, who played significant roles on “One Tree Hill,” have maintained a strong connection to the show even after it ended years ago. They now co-host a podcast titled “Drama Queens,” where they analyze and discuss various episodes and memorable scenes from the popular TV series.
In the upcoming reboot, it’s possible that the character of Lucas Scott, as portrayed by Chad Michael Murray, will be absent. Reports from Deadline suggest that Murray has shown no inclination towards reprising his role.
Back then, a few years ago, I was feeling pretty optimistic about resurrecting this game series. An idea has been brewing in my mind for a modern take on it, tackling current issues head-on.
UK viewers can watch all of the original One Tree Hill on ITVX.
