The popular teen drama Heartbreak High is back for its last season on March 25th. This new season is inspired by the original Australian series from 1994.
The cast includes James Majoos, Chloé Hayden, Asher Yasbincek, Will McDonald, Gemma Chua-Tran, Bryn Chapman Parish, Sherry-Lee Watson, Brodie Townsend, Rachel House, Chika Ikogwe, Kartanya Maynard, Aki Munroe, Ioane Sa’ula, Ben Turland, and William McKenna, alongside Madon and Weatherall.
The series debuted in 2022 and has naturally been compared to Netflix’s Sex Education. However, this Australian show isn’t simply a copy; it centers on a complicated friendship in its first season and develops its own distinct stories from that point forward.
The teen show Heartbreak High has gained a dedicated fanbase, with many viewers praising it as superior to Sex Education and highlighting its realistic portrayal of Gen Z (according to IMDb).
The show has been applauded for authentically portraying autistic characters by hiring autistic actors, which allows for more genuine and respectful storytelling.
“Finally, autistic actors are being casted to play autistic characters,” one fan wrote.
Watching this show was the first time I felt truly seen on screen. Usually, autistic characters are either made fun of or treated as objects of sadness, but this series was different. I’m really hoping it leads to better and more genuine representation of autistic people in TV and film.
