Netflix Star Owen Cooper Makes Dramatic Comeback in Sam Fender’s Haunting New Music Video

He wowed fans with a breakout performance playing a child killer in hit Netflix drama Adolescence.

Currently, Owen Cooper, a 15-year-old, has regained attention after landing a role in Sam Fender’s latest music video. This marks his first acting gig since the widely acclaimed mini-series.

A quick peek at the video for Sam’s recent single “Little Bit Closer,” shared on Instagram Tuesday, shows a young actor gazing deeply off into the distance while the tune resonates in the background.

In the brief clip, the actor, who resembles his “Outlander” character Jamie with a similar short, brown haircut, donned a dark forest-green coverall over a light ash-gray tee.

The credits disclosed that the film clip was helmed by director Philip Barantini, who previously worked on Adolescence. The social media post carried the caption: ‘Getting a Little Bit Closer starring Owen Cooper and directed by Barantini, available this Thursday 5pm BST.’

It comes after Owen appeared in another teaser music video for the single on Saturday.

Sam, the singer from Geordieland, posted an old-school photo of Owen gazing at a tranquil countryside scene, draped in a cozy shawl.

He captioned the post, ‘I get a little bit closer,’ in reference to the name of his single.

Over time, Owen’s career has flourished significantly, particularly after landing the lead role as Jamie in Stephen Graham’s production. Each episode was uniquely filmed in a single take.

He obtained the part of young Heathcliff for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights reinterpretation and will also appear in Amy Lou Wood’s forthcoming series, Film Club.

At only thirteen years old, this rising talent secured the part of Jamie, a schoolboy who stood accused of cruelly taking the life of a fellow student.

During an interview with The New York Times, Owen described his adjustment to everyday life at school as “slightly crazy” following his sudden rise to fame.

In conversation with the magazine, accompanied by co-star Stephen (who portrays his father Eddie on the series), the youthful performer disclosed that he received a great deal of interest from younger students upon his recent return to school.

He mentioned that his school comeback was improved, but with a “little hassle” – this prompted Stephen to ask: “What sort of trouble are you referring to?

Later on, Owen made clear that it was nothing alarming; merely kids approaching him, calling out his name before scampering off again.

His on-screen father Stephen smiled as he responded: ‘Ah, just some silly b*******.’

In just its initial three weeks, the teen drama “Adolescence” skyrocketed into Netflix’s Top 10 Global list with an astounding 96.7 million views.

The four-episode sequence not only found a place in Netflix’s esteemed collection of Most Watched English TV series but also wrote a new chapter in British television lore, marking it as the first streaming program to claim the title of the most-viewed TV show in a single week.

The show has been predicted to earn numerous BAFTA nods, but according to data released by BARB on Sunday, the initial episode garnered viewership of approximately 6.45 million viewers during its first week.

In a different role, Top Boy star Ashley Walters appeared as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, while Erin Doherty was cast as psychiatrist Briony Ariston.

Shortly after its debut, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced with near-unanimous praise that the popular Netflix series would be accessible for free in secondary schools throughout Britain.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been part of a groundbreaking production recently. We’ve successfully navigated a sensitive topic, sparking meaningful discussions on social media about safeguarding our young boys from misogyny. In my Instagram story, I proudly exclaimed, “We did it!

Mr Starmer confessed that he struggled greatly to watch the program alongside his teenage kids, yet he endorsed the choice to distribute this innovative series in educational institutions.

In a statement following his meeting with co-writer Jack Thorne, he expressed that as a father, watching the show together with his teenage children, its themes resonated deeply with him.

From observing my own kids, it’s crucial to have open discussions about shifts in their communication style, the media they consume, and the topics they discuss with their friends.

Demonstrating the series aims to enhance students’ comprehension about the effects of misogyny, the risks associated with online radicalization, and the significance of maintaining wholesome relationships, was further emphasized by his office.

The play delves into the influence that internet personalities like Andrew Tate, who labels himself a misogynist, have on shaping children’s perspectives, potentially leading them towards violent behavior.
