Netflix should not receive all of their desired top stars on RAW
As a seasoned gamer of the squared circle, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation as WWE teams up with Netflix. The prospect of witnessing my favorite wrestlers on a platform synonymous with binge-watching is tantalizing, but the fear of change looms large.
Once more, WWE is creating headlines by finalizing a business agreement with a global streaming giant, Netflix. As the launch of RAW draws near on its new digital platform, adjustments may be necessary to cater to Netflix’s requirements. It appears that Netflix has expressed interest in featuring specific WWE stars on RAW, namely Cody Rhodes (the Undisputed WWE Champion), Roman Reigns, and CM Punk. While the idea of these three stars gracing a single show is captivating, WWE might want to consider another strategy.
Netflix should wait for RAW to have new stars after WrestleMania
It makes sense for Netflix to aim for popular talent, but they should take WWE’s concerns into account since WWE also has a separate group of wrestlers on SmackDown. WWE has been diligent about maintaining a balance between their two shows, and Monday Night RAW already boasts a strong roster. If Netflix is interested in certain wrestlers specifically, then WWE might need to find a compromise. One possible solution could be to assign two out of the three desired names to the same show. For instance, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk could become part of RAW, while Roman Reigns remains on SmackDown.
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns should be on different shows
Migrating Cody Rhodes to RAW could be advantageous for Netflix. If Rhodes manages to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship, it would elevate Netflix’s status as they would hold the top title in WWE. This move could convey to Netflix that a leaner approach (less is more) might yield better results rather than overloading with too much content (more is less).
Over the last two years, Rhodes has demonstrated his ability to lead the company and take Netflix to greater heights. Wrestling enthusiasts would undoubtedly look forward to seeing him engage in both old and new rivalries with wrestlers like Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and even CM Punk. Additionally, Netflix could bring on board other top-tier wrestlers from SmackDown for Rhodes to collaborate with. The prospect of witnessing Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in action would be equally thrilling for Netflix.
Keeping Roman Reigns on SmackDown benefits both WWE and USA Network, as WWE loses RAW from their lineup, a show that USA Network has been associated with for nearly three decades. It’s fortunate for USA Network that they now have SmackDown, providing them with some wrestling content still under their control. As the star of Friday Night’s for five years, Reigns gives fans another reason to tune in to SmackDown. If WWE wants to add more excitement to the ongoing Bloodline story, they could transfer Jey Uso and Sami Zayn to SmackDown.
CM Punk should stay on RAW
It’s possible that CM Punk doesn’t have to switch shows, just like Roman Reigns who also works under a part-time contract without the requirement to appear every week. If he remains on RAW, fans may witness him reviving rivalries with wrestlers he wants to collaborate with again, including Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, and Cody Rhodes. CM Punk has expressed his desire to grapple with these individuals once more. Additionally, Punk mentioned his interest in facing stars he hasn’t shared a televised match with yet, like Damian Priest and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio.
