The first trailer is out for the new series, Detective Hole, based on the popular crime novels by Jo Nesbø. This intense thriller follows detective Harry Hole as he investigates a serial killer in Oslo. The trailer shows the challenges Harry faces, not only with the case itself, but also with his colleague, Tom Waaler, a corrupt officer who actively works against him.
Tobias Santelmann, the actor playing detective Harry Hole, shared his excitement on Netflix’s Tudum about bringing the character to life. He called it a “tremendous honor and thrilling challenge,” praising the depth of Jo Nesbø’s world and the complexity of Harry Hole. Santelmann hopes audiences will enjoy their interpretation and described the experience as a “true privilege.” The first trailer showcases the detective’s relatable flaws and humanity, which is expected to be a key draw for the series.
Actor Joel Kinnaman, recognized for his roles in The Suicide Squad and the Apple TV series For All Mankind, plays Tom Waaler alongside Florian Santelmann’s character. Beyond investigating a series of murders, Hole must also deal with a difficult relationship with Waaler, whose questionable ethics and approach are likely to cause conflict. The series also allows Kinnaman to demonstrate his language abilities, as he is fluent in English, Swedish, and Norwegian, and will be speaking Norwegian throughout the show.
‘Detective Hole’ is Netflix’s Next Big Crime Novel Adaptation
Øystein Karlsen, a director and producer for the show, described Detective Hole as a compelling blend of a quick-moving mystery and a realistic drama featuring relatable characters. He believes it’s packed with more unexpected twists than most thrillers. The trailer itself shows the enthusiasm of the team, and the series promises to be a strong addition to Netflix’s wide range of shows.

Jo Nesbø, the author of the original novel and the creator of the series, discussed adapting his work for television. While a previous film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender didn’t quite hit the mark, Nesbø is excited about the new series. He praised working with actor Tobias Santelmann to create a Harry Hole character that feels both new and faithful to the novels. He stated he’s eager for audiences to see this version of the detective. All nine episodes of Detective Hole will debut on Netflix on March 26, 2026.
