Netflix renews Tomb Raider show for season 2

As a gamer who’s been on this digital adventure for more than three decades, I must say, the announcement of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2 has sent waves of excitement coursing through my veins! From the moment I first controlled Lara in the ’90s, I was hooked – and now, witnessing her evolution on screen is nothing short of a nostalgic dream come true.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has been renewed for a second season at Netflix.

The report emerges following the premiere of the initial season of the animated show this month, where we follow the renowned archaeologist character (portrayed by Hayley Atwell), who is on a mission to prevent a mercenary from causing catastrophic damage to the planet’s balance.

In essence, while the first season serves as a kind of backstory, it’s been confirmed that the second season of Tudum will focus on transforming her character from a novice into the renowned figure we recognize today.

In the second season, the explorer Lara Croft uncovers a series of missing African mask-like figures known as Orishas. She teams up with her trusted companion, Sam, on a mission to recover these valuable cultural relics.

Lara embarks on an exhilarating journey spanning the world, uncovering ancient mysteries about Orisha history. Along the way, she must outmaneuver a wealthy and cryptic adversary who covets the masks for her own purposes. As she explores these artifacts, Lara uncovers their ominous past and a power that transcends rational understanding – a power that could possibly be divine.

Discussing the development of Lara in season two, showrunner Tasha Huo commented: “In season one, thematically, Lara was learning to cope with her father’s grief much like he did, by withdrawing from others. This will evolve in subsequent seasons.

Initially when you encounter Lara, she’s quite secluded… As we progress into season two, our aim is to assemble Lara’s team throughout the series. Consequently, Lara transitions from a solitary hero, who prefers to handle tasks independently – like a lone wolf – to recognizing, ‘In fact, I have an exceptional group supporting me.’

Lara Croft will make her comeback in real-life portrayal, as Phoebe Waller-Bridge from ‘Fleabag’ is assigned to compose a fresh version of the storyline for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Last year, Waller-Bridge expressed her excitement about the chance to create a strong female action character, stating, “It feels like I’ve been preparing for this moment, having worked on [No Time to Die] and Indiana Jones.” She further mentioned that she aims to infuse the project with a 90s atmosphere.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season one is now available to watch on Netflix.
