Netflix releases first look at Liam Payne’s final TV appearance before his tragic death in trailer for Building The Band

Netflix recently shared a sneak peek of Liam Payne’s last-ever television performance following his untimely passing last year.

Recorded prior to the demise of One Direction’s lead singer in October 2024, “Building The Band” follows hopeful singers as they compete to create the next sensational music group without ever meeting each other face-to-face.

On Wednesday, my heart skipped a beat as I watched Netflix unveil the trailer (first glimpsed at their TUDUM event) for an upcoming 10-part series that has me absolutely thrilled! This time, the legendary singer will grace us as a special guest judge. I can hardly wait!

Just like on The Voice, contestants will perform for one another to create their own group, with each participant seated separately so they cannot see each other during the process.

In the preview, the audience gets a sneak peek at the unique setup reminiscent of Love Is Blind, complete with pods. The show’s mechanics are hinted, and there’s a moment where one contestant passionately sings his feelings, while other performers tune in from their separate stations.

On July 9, when the talent show airs, you won’t see Liam among the initial performances. Neither will Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland, nor the host, AJ McLean, be appearing in the opening segment of the show at that time.

Fans of One Direction find themselves moved to tears upon hearing that Netflix has officially announced the launch date for the late singer’s upcoming music competition show titled “Building the Band.

Netflix completed filming the show before the unexpected demise of the former One Direction member, and now, they have confirmed that his family has watched the series and are in agreement with his appearance in it.

On Wednesdays announcement, the streaming behemoth revealed that the initial four episodes of the series will debut on July 9th.

New episodes will roll out every Wednesday over the course of 10 episodes.

Liam’s fans expressed their devastation as they reacted to the announcement news.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one said: ‘Oh it’s gonna be so hard… Liam.’

It’s sad to see Liam Payne on this poster, as it seems to be his last project. I expect I’ll be shedding tears while watching this series.

Instead of saying, “A third continued: ‘Oh Liam… you should’ve been here. Your post sharing this poster, filled with excitement and passion should’ve been the one where I saw it first.’,” you could also say, “A third added, ‘If only you had been here, Liam! It was your passionate post about that poster that I wish I’d seen first.'” This version maintains the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language.

‘I know you’re screaming about this wherever you are.’

‘Not prepared,’ another said. ‘Idk if I’ll be able to watch.’

A fifth confessed: ‘I’ll be sobbing in my room while I watch.’

The show, as explained in its summary, gathers gifted vocalists to create an exceptional competition series focused on forming the ideal band through harmonious collaboration.

The vocalists have full autonomy while independently establishing their unique groups, all within isolated recording spaces, never requiring visual contact with one another.

Liam died aged 31 on October 16 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a hotel.

The medical reason for his death was revealed as ‘polytrauma,’ a term that signifies the individual sustained several severe bodily injuries due to trauma.

As one of the five talented lads, I found myself part of the globally acclaimed boy band, One Direction, sharing the stage with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan.

The band were formed on Simon Cowell’s The X Factor before becoming an international sensation.

They split in 2016 after Zayn decided to leave the band.
