Netflix quietly adds new prison drama that fans have branded “captivating” and “addictive”

Users of Netflix find themselves deeply engaged by a critically-acclaimed Italian series now available on their streaming platform.

Originally broadcasted on Italian television network Rai 2 for four seasons, “The Sea Beyond” – crafted by Cristina Farina, follows the lives of characters Carmine Di Salvo (played by Massimiliano Caiazzo) and Filippo Ferrari (portrayed by Nicolas Maupas), who are teenagers in this captivating story.

In Naples, on the same day, they were both taken into custody. At first glance, they seem to share nothing, but their dreams surpass the life of crime. These aspirations are potentially threatened by Ciro Ricci, the son of a Camorra leader.

It’s been announced that there will be a fifth and sixth season of the show, along with a movie titled “Io Sono Rosa Ricci” which is planned for a theater release in Italy this year (as reported by Variety).

Ever since their arrival in the UK, fans have been praising the captivating drama that’s rich in dysfunctional relationships and dark themes.

A user commented on IMDb: “This movie is filled with dysfunction, violence, and a heavy dose of darkness. Despite the intriguing mystery, the excessive portrayal of Mafia-style ‘gangster’ violence feels overdone. The lack of positivity creates an unbalanced representation of good and evil.

One individual labeled the series as both “enjoyable” and “hard to tear away from,” while another expressed, “On the whole, I adore the music and the performers. As you follow the characters, you can’t help but empathize with them. It’s a show that’s hard to resist.
