Get ready to dive into the world of thrilling espionage! A popular streaming service is expanding its collection of a beloved spy movie series. Fans have been disappointed by the limited availability of these films on the platform – until now. Previously, only the latest movie, Dead Reckoning (released in 2023), was available, but more installments are on the way.
Starting April 1st, Netflix will add five more Mission: Impossible movies, almost giving subscribers access to the entire series starring Tom Cruise. Fans can now enjoy even more of the thrilling spy adventures after a recent addition to the streaming platform.
Netflix Is Getting 5 More Mission: Impossible Movies This Week
Starting this week, Netflix is adding five more Mission: Impossible movies to its selection. Joining Dead Reckoning on April 1st are the first movie from 1996, the two sequels that complete the original trilogy, Ghost Protocol, and Rogue Nation.
I’m so excited! For the first time ever, most of the Mission: Impossible movies are coming to Netflix! Before this, you pretty much needed a Paramount+ subscription to watch them. While Paramount+ will still have everything, Netflix now lets me get a lot closer to following Ethan Hunt’s adventures with the IMF. This is fantastic news for Netflix, especially considering how many of their top movies are always dominating the most-streamed lists.
Just weeks after receiving high praise at the 53rd Saturn Awards – where Tom Cruise won Best Actor and The Final Reckoning was named Best Action/Adventure Film – the Mission: Impossible movies are now available to stream on Netflix. The recent awards highlight the popular film series, much of which can now be enjoyed on the streaming platform.
Currently, Netflix doesn’t have all of the Mission: Impossible movies. The sixth film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and the eighth and final film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, are still only available on Paramount+ (and MGM+ for the final film). If you want to watch the entire eight-movie series, you’ll need a Paramount+ subscription, although Netflix now offers most of the films.
Is the Mission: Impossible Franchise Finished After The Final Reckoning?
So, there’s been a lot of talk about the future of Mission: Impossible, and honestly, as a huge fan, I’m wondering if this is really the end for Ethan Hunt and the team. The latest film doesn’t exactly feel like a final goodbye, though. It could totally work as a satisfying conclusion to thirty years of spy adventures, but it also cleverly leaves things open enough for more installments down the line. It’s a bit of a cliffhanger, leaving me both satisfied and wanting more!
Whether audiences will continue to support the Mission: Impossible franchise is now an open question. While the eighth film didn’t perform as well in theaters as hoped, it has found a strong audience after its initial release. This success suggests to Paramount that enough interest remains to consider making a ninth Mission: Impossible movie.
There’s been talk that Tom Cruise is planning a ninth Mission: Impossible film. Reports suggest he’s considering Chloe Zhao, an Academy Award-winning director, to direct it. If true, this would be a change for the series, as Christopher McQuarrie has directed the last four films. However, these are just rumors at this point.
After The Final Reckoning, the Mission: Impossible series has several paths it could take. A ninth film could simply continue Ethan Hunt’s story, or it could be a turning point, establishing new characters and a future for the franchise that extends beyond Tom Cruise’s leading role. This latter option would be the strongest choice for the long-term health of the series, and could still allow Cruise to appear, perhaps as a mentor figure after eight films as the main star.
Fans of the Mission: Impossible movies have a reason to celebrate! Six out of the eight films starring Tom Cruise will soon be available to stream on Netflix. This is particularly welcome news as people are wondering what the future holds for the series after the release of The Final Reckoning.
Mission: Impossible 1-5 arrive on Netflix April 1, 2026.
