Netflix Lands a New Streaming Hit in Guy Ritchie & Jake Gyllenhaal’s 97% RT Rated Action Movie

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about this one! Jake Gyllenhaal, who’s been nominated for an Oscar and consistently delivers amazing performances, is teaming up with director Guy Ritchie for a new war action film. From what I understand, it’s already gaining a lot of traction. The story seems intense – Gyllenhaal’s character goes back into a dangerous situation to save someone who once saved him. Sounds like a must-see!

Guy Ritchie (known for films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and The Gentlemen) directs, co-writes, and co-produces this film, which draws inspiration from real events. The story follows Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) during his final tour in Afghanistan. He partners with Ahmed, a local interpreter who has his own reasons for being there. When Ahmed saves John’s life after an injury, carrying him to safety across dangerous terrain, John feels obligated to return the favor. After learning Ahmed is in danger, John bravely goes back to Afghanistan to rescue him.

Featuring Dar Salim (known from Game of Thrones), Alexander Ludwig (Vikings, Bad Boys for Life), Antony Starr (The Boys), Jason Wong (The Gentlemen), Bobby Schofield (Black Sea, SAS Rogue Heroes), Sean Sagar (The Gentlemen, Fate: The Winx Saga), Sina Parvaneh (Holy Spider), Emily Beecham (1899, Daphne), Cyrus Khodaveisi (Love at Second Sight), and Christian Ochoa (Pitch, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant is quickly becoming popular on Netflix. Here’s a look at what the movie is about…

In Guy Ritchie‘s film, The Covenant, US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) relies heavily on his Afghan interpreter, Ahmed (Dar Salim). After a dangerous ambush, Ahmed risks everything to save Kinley. When Kinley discovers that Ahmed and his family were denied the promised safe passage to the United States, he feels obligated to help. He returns to Afghanistan, now under Taliban control, to rescue them before they are found.

Despite not being as widely recognized as some of their other work, The Covenant deserves more attention. The action war movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently boasts an 82% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from critics and an impressive 98% ‘Verified Hot’ rating from viewers, who have praised the acting and thrilling action sequences. Critics have called it a “satisfying war thriller with surprising emotional depth,” and audiences recommend seeing it for the action and staying for the strong performances and respectful portrayal of wartime sacrifices.

Good news for those who enjoyed The Covenant: Jake Gyllenhaal and Guy Ritchie are teaming up again for a new action thriller. They’re bringing along Henry Cavill and Eiza González, both known for their roles in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and, in Cavill’s case, as Superman. The movie, called In the Grey, will center around two experts who must rescue a negotiator and help her escape with a large sum of stolen money. It’s currently scheduled to come out in 2026.
