Netflix is set to release a fan-favorite Korean zombie series this week
As a gamer with a soft spot for apocalyptic narratives and a deep appreciation for well-crafted Korean dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement for the arrival of “Happiness” on Netflix this coming Thursday. Having binge-watched my fair share of zombie series, I’ve grown accustomed to the formulaic plots that often leave me longing for something fresh and engaging.
Get ready for heart-pounding suspense, nail-biting action, and a lot of spine-tingling undead excitement! Tomorrow, the beloved Korean zombie series will be available on Netflix – can you figure out which one it is?
Indeed, it’s not “All of Us Are Dead,” but that’s another fantastic South Korean zombie series worth watching. As of now, a second season of this captivating show is being developed by Netflix, although the release date remains uncertain.
The zombie series under discussion in this article is titled “Happiness“. Unlike “All of Us Are Dead”, which is an original production from Netflix, “Happiness” is a show that Netflix obtained the streaming rights for. This implies it may not be available on the platform indefinitely. Therefore, it’s crucial to start watching it right away.
Studio Dragon is responsible for producing the series that brings happiness to many viewers. This renowned South Korean television production company has also created other chilling Korean horror series like “Sweet Home” and “Gyeongseong Creature.” The zombie series premiered on the South Korean TV network tvN in 2021, attracting impressive ratings. Although it wasn’t as widely popular as some other K-dramas at that time, it managed to gain a solid fanbase due to its overall positive reception.
This production was highly admired for its original concept, powerful ambiance, deep character development, convincing acting, and in-depth examination of class distinctions, power structures, and societal disparities. The primary actors, Han Hyo-joo and Park Hyung-sik, garnered considerable recognition for their skillful portrayals of the intricate characters Yoon Sae-bom and Jung Yi-hyun.
Han Hyo-joo may be familiar to you from her roles as Keunkal in “Believer 2” and Oh Yeon-joo in the Korean series “W”. On the other hand, Park Hyung-sik has gained recognition through his appearances in various Korean dramas such as “Strong Girl Bong-soon”, “Strong Girl Nam-soon”, and “Doctor Slump”.
In a tall apartment building amidst a virus outbreak turning people into ravenous, zombie-like beings, we follow a band of residents, including a police officer (Han Hyo-joo) and a detective (Park Hyung-sik), who struggle to stay alive as the world around them becomes more perilous and stressful. The story unfolds in Happiness.
Alongside Han and Park in the lineup are actors such as Jo Woo-jin, Seo Hyun-chul, Jung Jae-eun, Lee Jun-hyeok, Bek Hyunjin, Lee Ji-ha, Park Hee-von, Moon Ye-won, and Park Joo-hee, among others.
Sadly, the zombie show is limited to just one season, encompassing a total of 12 episodes. Each episode runs slightly more than an hour. Check out the thrilling trailer below!
The Korean zombie series titled “Happiness” is set to stream on Netflix starting from December 12, 2024. Are you planning to tune in and watch it with us?
