Fans who are action enthusiasts and subscribe to the streaming platform might find it challenging to watch “Den of Thieves” starting from June, as the Gerard Butler-starred film is scheduled to depart the platform at the beginning of next month.
According to reports, the movie “Den of Thieves” is scheduled to depart Netflix on June 1st. This action-packed crime film, helmed by Christian Gudegast, revolves around a group of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempting to thwart a gang of ex-MARSOC Marines who are planning to rob the Federal Reserve in LA. In the lead role, Butler portrays Detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien, with Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson sharing the screen as the robbers. Despite garnering mixed reviews from critics, “Den of Thieves” proved to be a financial success, grossing approximately $80 million globally on a production budget of $30 million.

The initial movie success of “Den of Thieves” paved the way for a second installment, titled “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.” In this sequel, both Butler and Jackson resume their roles, while Gudegast continues as the screenwriter and director. The plot unfolds as Big Nick pursues Donnie across Europe, where he has entangled himself with a group of diamond thieves and the dangerous Panther mafia.
Regrettably, the latest Pantera film didn’t manage to replicate the global success of its predecessor, earning a total of $57.3 million worldwide against a bigger production cost of $40 million. Critics’ opinions were divided once more, as Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 62%. Despite these figures, Lionsgate intends to continue the franchise, with filming for the next installment slated to start before 2026, and Africa being a probable location for shooting.
What’s Next for Gerard Butler?
For fans of Butler, leaving “Den of Thieves” on Netflix won’t be a significant loss since they’ll be eagerly going to the cinema in June to watch his latest movie, titled “How to Train Your Dragon“. This live-action adaptation of the beloved animated film shares the same name, and Butler is the only cast member reprising his role. He will be back as Stoick the Vast, the father character from the franchise, with Hiccup being played by Mason Thames in this new version.
In January, Butler spoke about the upcoming remake of the classic tale, hinting that it appears “significantly scarier” compared to its animated version. However, he didn’t view this as a negative aspect. Instead, he found it more engaging and immersive. The actor expressed his eagerness to see the final product, believing each moment would be priceless.
In my own words, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently wrapped up filming for the follow-up to a project close to my heart – titled “Greenland: Migration”. This upcoming movie continues the story of my character and Morena Baccarin’s as we depart from the safe haven in Greenland, braving a dangerous trek across Europe to find a new home. The studio, Lionsgate, plans to bring this sequel to the big screen later this year.
Den of Thieves leaves Netflix on June 1.
