Netflix is bringing the popular board game Catan to television for the first time. They’re partnering with Asmodee, the company known for games like Ticket to Ride and 7 Wonders, to create both scripted dramas and reality-style shows based on Catan. Fans can expect a variety of new content inspired by the game.
Netflix is working on film, series, and unscripted live-action and animation based on the game
In a surprising move, Netflix is adapting the popular board game Catan for television. They’re creating both scripted and unscripted shows, promising to bring the game’s exciting world of resource gathering, strategic alliances, and unpredictable events to life on screen.
Get ready, CATAN fans! The popular board game by Klaus Teuber is heading to Netflix. For the first time, the world of CATAN will be adapted into a variety of video content, including movies, TV series (both live-action and animated), and unscripted shows.

Catan, originally called The Settlers of Catan, was first created by Klaus Teuber in 1995 and has been bringing players together ever since with its engaging strategy and enjoyable gameplay. Adapting that balance of excitement and fun for a digital screen is a challenge, but this new collaboration aims to create a truly immersive Catan experience.
This new addition is now expanding Netflix’s game-to-screen universe
The adaptation will be produced by a team including Darren Kyman of Asmodee, Pete Fenlo from Catan Studio, Klaus Teuber’s sons Guido and Benjamin Teuber, and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Given their collective expertise, I’m confident the project will be faithful to the original while also delivering a truly memorable experience.
Asmodee’s CEO, Thomas Koegler, expressed his excitement about the game reaching more players and allowing them to experience its detailed world, and I couldn’t agree more. This project also builds on Netflix’s success with adapting games into shows and movies, following popular titles like Arcane and Castlevania, and adding to the lineup with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed series.
It’s exciting to think about how Catan, the popular board game already enjoyed on tablets, computers, and as a physical game, will be adapted into a compelling TV series. Considering Netflix is heavily investing in game adaptations like those from Supercell’s Clash Universe, now seems like the ideal moment to bring this worldwide favorite to viewers.
