Netflix has just added Joaquin Phoenix’s “memorable” and “bizarre” must-see comedy
The streaming platform, Netflix UK and Ireland, has recently included the highly unusual 2023 dark comedy titled “Beau is Afraid“, featuring Joaquin Phoenix, in its collection.
Under the guidance of Ari Aster, who has previously directed ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’, this film tells the story of a man planning to meet his mother. However, there’s much more to it than just that meeting, as an array of peculiar events unfold – revealing more than initially suggested.
In addition to the main cast, we have Patti LuPone from “Agatha All Along,” Nathan Lane from “The Lion King,” Parker Posey from “The White Lotus” season 3, and Bill Hader from “Barry.”

Or simply:
Our cast also includes Patti LuPone (from “Agatha All Along”), Nathan Lane (“The Lion King”), Parker Posey (“The White Lotus” S3), and Bill Hader (“Barry”).
After its premiere, the review published in The Independent described the movie as a “three-hour long comedy filled with negative energy and deliberate humiliation. It’s as impactful, daring, and extravagant as one would expect from A24’s costliest production yet.
The unusual character of the movie might not appeal to all, but if you’re seeking something unconventional and happen to be a Netflix member, watching Beau is more accessible than ever before.
After the debut of “Beau is Afraid,” Joaquin Phoenix then took on the role in “Joker: Madness for Two,” a production that received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed financially at the box office.
The actor recently withdrew from a yet-unnamed gay romance movie, which he co-wrote just prior to its scheduled start of production. Since then, the whole production has been put on hold.
At a recent Joker press conference, he explained that expressing his thoughts on the topic might merely reflect his personal viewpoint. Since the other creative minds are absent and it doesn’t seem appropriate for him to speak on their behalf, he chose not to comment.
“I’m not sure how that would be helpful. So I don’t think I will.”
