Netflix fans rush to watch perfect BBC drama with Vicky McClure as it storms its UK chart
Fans of Netflix have flocked to watch Vicky McClure‘s critically acclaimed BBC series, now available on their platform.
The show titled “The Replacement,” first aired back in 2017, made its debut on the streaming platform just last week, and it’s already garnered massive popularity among viewers.
At present, the psychological thriller ranks fourth among the ten most popular TV shows in the UK, with Adolescence, The Residence, and Harlan Coben’s Caught ahead of it.

The storyline revolves around Ellen, portrayed by Morven Christie from “The Bay,” who hires Paula (McClure) as a temporary substitute during her maternity leave. However, Ellen soon becomes concerned that she may have made a regrettable decision when Paula begins encroaching on her life.
In the narrative, Paula swiftly begins to approach Ellen’s superiors, clients, and acquaintances without delay, causing Ellen to worry that she might be pushed out. The summary continues by stating that people generally view Paula favorably, with Ellen being perceived as paranoid, until an incident at work intensifies Ellen’s suspicions.
Joe Ahearne penned and helmed the production known as “The Replacement,” which boasts a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although the series was praised as “pitch-perfect” by Metro and described as “the juiciest melodrama since Doctor Foster” by The Times, viewers’ reactions were varied, with one viewer labeling it as a “disappointment.
McClure is most famously recognized for portraying Detective Inspector (DI) Kate Fleming on the BBC’s series, “Line of Duty,” which has sparked whispers of its potential comeback.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the recent speculation about another season. My dear co-star, Anna Maxwell Martin, playfully quipped to Metro: “I’d be sniped over there, so…” On a more somber note, Martin Compston has openly acknowledged that as of now, there’s no new season in sight.
The Replacement is available to stream now on Netflix in the UK.
