Displeased Netflix users in Australia have promised to permanently avoid using the streaming service following another increase in prices they’ve experienced.
Beginning late September, the monthly cost for Netflix’s most affordable plan featuring advertisements (referred to as ‘Standard with ads’) will increase by two dollars. This will bring the price up from its current rate of $7.99 per month to $9.99 per month.
In this updated standard service, free from ads, the monthly fee is set to rise by two dollars, reaching $20.99. This enables subscribers to enjoy hit movies and series such as Squid Game, Virgin River, and Wednesday.
However, premium plan subscribers face the greatest rate hike, as their monthly cost increases by three dollars, totaling $28.99 per month.
Additionally, it’s important to note that an increase of one dollar per month will be implemented for every additional member added to the plan, uniformly.
Furious customers have taken to social media, vowing to cancel Netflix for good.

‘We’re going to witness piracy by the likes never seen before,’ one person sniped.
‘Saw this yesterday and finally cancelled my membership of nine years,’ a second added.
Employees are consistently increasing their prices without providing any additional value, assuming customers will continue to pay without complaint. However, the only way to truly make a difference is by choosing where to spend your money.
Netflix recently sent emails to customers informing them of the price changes.
‘Thank you for being a valued member since 2015,’ one email shared online read.
Here’s a possible way to rephrase the original sentence while keeping it simple and natural:
“Enjoying all the content on Netflix? Just a heads up, we’ll be increasing your monthly charge to $28.99 starting September 25, 2025.
A Netflix representative stated: “We provide a variety of pricing options and plans tailored for different requirements. Since we’re constantly enhancing the benefits for our subscribers, there may be instances where they are asked to contribute slightly more.
‘We’re adjusting prices in Australia with plans starting at $9.99.’

This year in February, the major streaming platform eliminated its basic plan, leading to an increase in cost for users who now opt for ad-free content.
Over the years, Netflix has gradually shifted from its initial focus on affordable pricing, as it has increased its subscription fees a total of six times since it first launched in Australia back in 2015.
In simple terms, over the course of approximately one year, the price of Netflix’s most affordable plan has experienced a significant increase of about 43%. This hike is effective as early as May 2024.
The business started charging for account sharing, a service previously offered at no cost, and discontinued its least expensive ad-free plan instead.
Initially, when Netflix debuted, the basic, advertisement-free subscription cost just $8.99, whereas the premium plan was priced at a modest $14.99. In contrast, the current monthly fee for both plans is close to $30.
In 2023, Netflix also cracked down on account holders sharing passwords between households.
In May 2023, the platform sent an email to Australian recipients clarifying that the account could be used exclusively by individuals residing within a single household.
‘Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with – your household,’ Netflix warned.
In simple terms, due to recent price hikes, Netflix now ranks as the costliest among popular streaming video subscriptions available in Australia.
Stan consistently offers a budget-friendly choice, featuring plans that vary between $12 and $22, and an extra $20 for Stan Sport.
