Netflix confirms return of “iconic mystery-solving” team in new live-action series

Netflix has confirmed details about the brand-new live-action Scooby-Doo series.

It was recently announced that a new television series, penned by Josh Appelbaum (known for the Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies) and Scott Rosenberg (renowned for the revamped Jumanji films), is close to finalizing an agreement with a streaming platform.

Now it’s been announced that the show is official happening, with an eight-episode series order.

As a gamer, I can’t wait to dive into the backstory! This new series, inspired by Hanna-Barbera, brings us a fresh take on those legendary teen detectives and their extraordinary canine companion, set against a contemporary backdrop. It’s like stepping into a brand-new adventure with familiar faces!

During the last summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, longtime pals Shaggy and Daphne find themselves entangled in a chilling enigma about a forlorn stray Great Dane pup who could potentially be a spectator to an otherworldly homicide.

Accompanied by the practical and science-minded resident, Velma, and the peculiar yet captivating new arrival, Freddy, they embarked on a mission to unravel the mystery that seems to entangle each of them in a chilling nightmare, potentially revealing their hidden truths.

Here are a few intriguing elements in this story: Scoob is depicted as a puppy, Shaggy and Daphne have a prior acquaintance, and Fred takes on an unusual role as the quirky one. Additionally, the summer camp being named after creators Joe Ruby and Ken Spears (and the animation studio they founded) adds a delightful detail to the plot.

One of the executive producers is Greg Berlanti, a key figure responsible for the Arrowverse and the director of “Love, Simon”.

He once mentioned that among his earliest cherished roles in Hollywood, one involved me spending time with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera as they autographed animation cells.

Over the past few years, several animated Scooby films have emerged, among them is one that acknowledges Velma’s sexual orientation as lesbian, namely the 3D animated film “Scoob!” and its initially planned but later cancelled sequel, in addition to an adult-oriented Velma series created by Mindy Kaling, which has sparked some controversy.

The new Scooby-Doo show doesn’t have a title or release window yet, but will be coming to Netflix.
