Netflix confirms huge Happy Gilmore 2 update with returning stars
As a gamer who has grown up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies – Happy Gilmore! The news that Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will return as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, respectively, has me reminiscing about the countless times I’ve watched the original movie, quoting lines like “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.
Netflix has confirmed some classic Happy Gilmore stars will return for the sequel.
On September 10th, the streamer announced on Twitter that the sequel to “Happy Gilmore” will be bringing back Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald.
In a repeat of their previous roles, Bowen will once again play Happy’s girlfriend Virginia Venit, and McDonald returns to the golf course as Shooter McGavin, the main opponent for the golfer.
Adam Sandler hinted at the comeback of Shooter McGavin, as he shared that production on the sequel to “Happy Gilmore” kicked off just a few days ago.

Posting a picture of Happy’s Boston Bruins jersey on Instagram, the actor shared one of Happy’s famous lines from their show: “Things aren’t finished yet. In my opinion… this is merely the start.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super hyped about the return of two iconic characters in “Happy Gilmore 2“! And here’s the cherry on top – Netflix just announced via their social media platforms that the one and only Bad Bunny will be joining the sequel. Can’t wait to see what this musical sensation brings to the table!
Last month, it was revealed that NFL player Travis Kelce, who is also dating Taylor Swift, will make an appearance in the upcoming project as announced by Sandler.
Sandler shared that he’s dropping by. He’s an exceptionally kind individual, he assured The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. In person, you’d find him delightful. A true charmer, both handsome and witty beyond belief.
Previously, it was also unveiled that Benny Safdie, who had worked with Sandler on Uncut Gems, and comedian Nick Swardson, were set to appear in unspecified parts. Additionally, some professional golfers are anticipated to make brief appearances as well.
Sandler collaborated on the screenplay with Tim Herlihy, a colleague with whom he had previously teamed up for projects like “Hubie Halloween,” “Murder Mystery,” “Grown Ups,” and numerous other films.
In a shift for the upcoming “Happy Gilmore” sequel, Kyle Newacheck is stepping into the director’s role, previously held by Dennis Dugan. Notably, Newacheck has directed Adam Sandler’s Netflix movie “Murder Mystery”, and has also been involved in the television adaptations of “What We Do in the Shadows”, “Workaholics” and “Community”.
Happy Gilmore 2 will stream on Netflix, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
