Netflix cancels popular action series despite 92% Rotten Tomatoes score and fans aren’t happy
Fans are less than pleased because Netflix decided to end the action series “The Recruit” after only two seasons.
The series, centered around a CIA attorney played by Noah Centineo, has just premiered its second installment, receiving an impressive 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It seems that the efforts weren’t sufficient as the streamer has opted to cancel the series according to Variety.
The cancellation of “The Recruit” was initially announced by actor Colton Dunn (known as Lester Kitchens) through his social media platform, Threads, stating: “I’m sorry to say that ‘The Recruit’ has been cancelled. What a disappointment.
I’ll post some pictures and fun memories on Instagram, but I wanted to personally tell you. Thanks for tuning in! By the way, I’m currently available for hire. Let’s work together on your TV story!
Alexi Hawley, the show’s creator, shared the news in a detailed tweet, giving insights into the series’ pathway to television broadcasting.
He subsequently penned a remark in relation to the well-known line from “Community”: “Does ‘two seasons and a movie’ count? Because we’d show up instantly if it does. Otherwise, I tell you what, we gave it our absolute best shot.
If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a go! I promise you won’t be disappointed by the thrilling experience. Unlike many shows that feel more like assignments, The Recruit offers a mix of suspense, humor, and intense action that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Later on, he expressed his gratitude saying, “Lastly, to everyone involved in the production, I appreciate your dedication in bringing out the best in yourselves for this unique program. It has been a privilege to share time with you and make me a better individual.
Supporters have expressed their dismay about the recent announcement, with one writing: “What a pity! The second season of ‘The Recruit’ surpassed the first in quality, and we were poised to explore further horizons. I’m frustrated, Netflix. Could you reconsider?
“Apparently quite frustrated since Netflix decided to end The Recruit. That’s too bad, @netflix,” a second agreed, while a third commented: “I find it quite disappointing that after two seasons, @netflix has chosen to cancel The Recruit. Earlier this year, I had my fears when it was released at the same time as Night Agent. It seems my suspicions were correct.
It was a poor choice not to renew the fantastic series ‘The Recruit‘ for a third season on Netflix, in my opinion. Both the show and its talented cast are outstanding.
Prior to the announcement of new developments, Hawley hinted at the possibility of a third season, expressing that he had “several ideas” such as reintroducing season 2 character Teo Yoo (from “Past Lives”) as Jang Kyu.
The Recruit seasons 1 and 2 are both available to stream on Netflix.
