Netflix cancels excellent Dead Boy Detectives show after just one season
As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of all things supernatural, I must confess that the news of Netflix canceling “Dead Boy Detectives” has left me with a heavy heart. This show was a delightful blend of mystery, humor, and the macabre, perfectly capturing the essence of its source material.
According to Variety, Netflix has decided to cancel “Dead Boy Detectives,” an entertaining series with a dedicated fanbase that showed great potential. This seems to be the reality for shows streaming worldwide.
To be frank, it wasn’t entirely unexpected that the series got axed. After all, we were talking about “Dead Boy Detectives,” a show featuring two deceased lads turned detectives who managed to hold their ground in Netflix’s Top 10 for three whole weeks. It racked up millions of views, but it seems like it wasn’t quite enough.
The series was modeled after a comic book of the same title, a spin-off from Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” comics, both of which are being adapted into TV shows by Netflix; the second season of “The Sandman” is yet to be released. In “Dead Boy Detectives,” George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri played the main roles, with Kassius Nelson, Yuyu Kitamura, Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, David Iacono, Lukas Gage, and Ruth Connell joining as supporting cast members. Notably, Caitlin Reilly, who creates amusing YouTube videos, appeared as a fairy character. One may wonder when her Netflix show will debut.
It’s hard not to ponder if Neil Gaiman, given his recent allegations of inappropriate behavior, may have played a role in the series. Since these accusations have surfaced, it seems unlikely that he would have been able to advocate for the show if he had wished to. However, I suspect the primary reason might be due to the viewer numbers not meeting Netflix’s expectations.
So RIP, Dead Boy Detectives. One more funeral won’t hurt.
